John Barnes has been suspended for 1 week. HAHA.

Hopefully the tribunal will rub out all the others for the Melee.

I only memtioned Barnes because the Pies are playing them this week.

Yer Walshy, you had better watch out, the Collingwood Juggernaught is coming.

*Even as a Pies supporter, that made me laugh writing that!*

Big sigh of relief from this corner of London that he got off with a week... given that we've probably got the Shinboners first week up in the real stuff I think we'll need all the talls we can get.

Actually, can someone (I'm looking at you here Mr D24) tell what the likely PF match ups are if Ess beat North (assuming Melb don't blow up) and Melb beat Carl (just a hypothetical...)

I assume this means that Ess and Melb avoid each other unless they meet in the GF.

Am I right in saying that the winner of 5 v 8 (Say WBD v Rich or Syd or Haw) would play Carlton and the winner of 6 v 7 (Geel v Bris)would play North?

So: Week 2 ?

Carl v (say) WBD (on current form)
North v (say) Geel

On this scenario I assume, having finished top we'd get the lowest ranked winner (?) So week 3:

Ess v North or Geel?
Melb v Carl or WBD?

It this correct? Just seems a little strange if we have to play North twice and avoid both Melb and Carl pre- the GF (assuming all this went to plan - which is very, very unlikely...)

Thanks

Dutch, no in this scenario we'd end up playing Carlton or the WB. The Prelim games swap over so there's no repeat game (if indeed the Qual losers win their Semi). For some reason the AFL don't like 'em.

If Melbourne beat Carlton (which they will), the Dons and the Dees advance to separate preliminary finals. The loser of 1v4 plays the winner of 5v8. The loser of 2v3 plays the winner of 6v7.

The means Carlton will likely be paying Brisbane in the 2nd week.

It also means if the Blues win that, they will meet Essendon, becasue the preliminary finals swap over (apparently thr AFL don't want rematches)

But if North win their semi-final in week 2, and then their preliminary final against Melbourne, then they will play Essendon in the Grand Final, repeating their week 1 match-up, so i don't know what the AFL is thinking there.

Common-sense has gone out the window again...

Thanks Guys

Have to say (get ready for a shock) I feel an element of compassion for Carlton losing Kouta so close to the finals - I know we didn't have Lucas or Hird last year and may not have a fully fit Hird this year but jeez I think that's pretty unlucky given the year of achievement they've had with a pretty average side playing above itself, held together by 4 or 5 stars of whom Kouta is the brightest.

That said, I would love to see them have their annual finals thumping up at the Gabba - what was it? 99 points 3 years ago? 60 odd last year?
