Sorry cut and paste job from: http://www.geocities.com/dons_fanzine/thedons.htm
"After 127 league games, 2 premiership medallions and 42 goals, Dean Wallis the boy from recruited from Nhill in 1987 last night announced his retirement on Essendon's Bomber Radio. Injuries to his achillis plagued him early in his career and it wasn't until the early 1990's that Wally made his mark on the team. An inclusion in the 1993 and 2000 premiership teams was Wally's stand out moments in his career. His 100th game 2 years ago was also a special moment. Dean was contemplating retirement last year, but coach Kevin Sheedy talked him out of it to return to the side this year. Unfortunately for Dean in his testimonial year, a back related hamstring injury meant that he didn't play any games, only managing a few in the reserves. Best mate and team mate John Barnes is also expected to announce that Saturdays grand final will be his last game as well. Thanks for the memories Dean."
After Dean Wallis announced he will hang up his boots, John Barnes today also announced that he will end his career this saturday. After 201 games (12 with Essendon between 1987 and 1990; 144 with Geelong between 1992 and 1999) he has been the larrikin of the AFL for many years and will be sorely missed. He played in 3 losing Grand Finals at Geelong and last year finally played in his first ever premiership. On Saturday he will be looking forward on making it back to back. The players gave Barnesy, Wallis and Long a guard of honour as the came onto the training track.
There are some pics of the guard of honour up there as well as others from the parade.
