Used to be Cam Mooney. Who do we think is now our barometer? Watching AFL teams tonight, that was a theme. I'd go for Chappy. If he is on, we are usually unbeatable in big games particularly. They nominated SJ. Any thoughts on ours and other teams barometers?

Chappy tends to set the standard for us, and when he's fit and firing, they all look for him so much.

If not Chappy then Bartel. When on , we win. End of story.

This....

I can't remember too many games we have won that Jimmy has been poor in, I can remember PLENTY of games in which he has been awesome and we have gotten up

Stevie J for me when he is playing footy and not worrying about all the staging crap we are usually purring along but when he starts looking towards the ump's after every contest you know we are struggling

definitely Stevie J :thumbsu:
He is the one bloke on our list than can literally turn a game on it's head and he was very poor in last year's finals series and after having an excellent pre-season, hasn't really got going yet. The main reason why I like us in finals this year round is only because of Stevie J. He's gonna turn it on and when he does is almost impossible to guard because he's so unorthodox, if he kicks a couple of goals early in a game then he's on but sometimes doesn't do much at all before producing 10 minutes of burst footy.

I find it odd that SJ would be seen as the barometer. He barely touched the ball in the 2009 GF. Don't get me wrong, he's a great player but I don't think it's as clear cut as what has been suggested.

In terms of what is required this year, Ottens needs to be on in the ruck; Scarlo creating from the back half and Corey providing grunt I would put as barometers, if there were any. Our side is such that any given player could be a barometer in a sense.

Perhaps the output if the kids is a barometer in a sense that they often finish the hard work that the older heads put in. When their job is made easier, you can tell that the side is functioning pretty well

he barely touched it maxy and we nearly lost the match because of it. Took Rooke's determination and Scarlett's ingenuity to turn the table on that one.

True and that's my point. On any given day, we've become accustomed to someone stepping up when circumstance requires it. This is why I believe that we could perhaps have multiple barometers depending on how the match is unfolding

Selwood turns games quicker than just about any other player through his force of will sometimes. Once he gets that steely look in his eye and confidence is coursing through him we are untouchable.

I dearly hope we see it in a final this year.

So Selwood for me.

Looking at GF's only, 07, all were good, Chappy was excellent, so was SJ.

08, Chappy injured, basically ineffective, poor GF result.

09, Chappy Norm Smith

From the replies, the beauty of our team is there are multiple choices.

Smithy for sure...

If he is down and out of the game, i feel that it is beyond us to get back.

Thing is, this very rarely happens.

So many close finishes and he is ALWAYS there stepping up. Im not saying he is the most prominent but is probably the one I see the most frequently making a difference when it is on in the last....

Just brilliant!

Go Catters

PS - Kel and Selwood a close second..

I was giving some thought to this, and I would agree with that.

I felt Kelly too given we have a more defensive mindset this season with his tackling and overall toughness and skill would be a strong guide and he has been, Selwood goes without saying as just one of the most inspirational blokes you will ever see on a footy field.

But if its a final this year and we are down a kick or two in the last, I suspect the way Corey is travelling will be a fairly good guide. He is often the last quarter specialist racking up over 10 disposals and even contesting in the ruck and everthing else with his run and fitness. I agree he is so often that little bit extra that gets us home and what was sadly lacking in 2010.

I thought this was a very good theme on AFL Teams. The look on BT's face with some of the choices was priceless. In terms of the Cats I feel it's SJ and Chappy - if either kicks 3+ in a game we're a damn good chance to win.
