People have to remember also that he was sick of just playng the game and earning money as so many players do.

He made the statement in 2009 that we want to win a premiership and all the deadbeats pilloried him. Not even Ed would have made such a bold projection. He showed he meant it and no-one can doubt he did everything possible in 2010 to make it happen. He's got vision, belief, hardness and it just rubs off.

Can't believe we are having to defend his leadership qualities. Just shits all over Judd the android as an inspired leader. Have seen Judd win games, but never inspired that insipid team except for getting Murphy to eat fruit salad. As you were.

Inspiring people by corageous acts, setting the structures, on-field voice and direction. Captains that play well will play well regardless of their title. A captain is all about pulling the onfield group together by voice and act.

Barrett is a cockwrench slinking a dollar off Pie stories. His only relevance is by floating Pie stories. His currency is shot after becoming TFS's kept whore.

There is no way anyone here would know who the good captains in the AFL are, that said neither would Barrett.

This year, from what I can tell Maxwell has been a good captain. Last year not so much, he wasn't doing anything different except his form was below par. I think it is fair to mark him down when on form he was struggling to justify a position in the side. From my own experiences playing football it has an impact when your captain is struggling week on week.

Thirteenth does seem a little low however these lists are never going to make everyone happy and some will have to be down the bottom.

I'd agree we don't know, nor does Barrett, but i'm pretty sure the club knows, Leigh Matthews knows, Mark Riscuito knows, that people in football know.

A silly sleight of hand, topped off by your amatuer footy experience.

There is no personal agenda scodog, i acknowledge he is a good citizen and has done/does great work in the community,he is an average footballer and always will be,he deserves to be scrutinized as i don`t rate him on the football field, that is all, Pendlebury,Shaw,Ball, are head and shoulders above him as on-field leaders, i won`t bother mentioning his place as a footballer as he is not in the top 25 at our club on that front.

I believe the players would beg to differ.

It's no coincidence that we've won 8 on the trott and maxwell is in good form.

He has been forced to play key position over the last month, and has done so fantastically.

Other than that, who cares where he is "ranked" by a nerd.
I think ranking captains is dumb. There is no explicit criteria. It's all opinion.

Rankings can only be done two ways rightfully:
1. Where criteria for rank is EXPLICITLY stated before rankings.
2. Where there is a voting system, taken by people who "know". Eg, brownlow medal.

That is it.

Just another opinion piece. Very similar to the "Collingwood have no depth (in my opinion, cause I'm a hater)" article at the beginning of the year.

In 2010, maxwell was voted best player in finals for our club.
He is definitely best 25, best 18, best 10... And I won't list my criteria for what I think is "best" cause it's just my opinion ;)

Interesting point that Bucks made in an interview on Monday night - Maxy has been trying to create a bit of a leadership void over the last 18 months to allow others to step up.

Did he indicate who might be stepping into the "void"?

Surely Darren Jolly slips in ahead of MASTHEAD Gary Lyon? And Murphy is surprisingly pretty good. I'd have him leading the 'players/ex-players' contingent.

Ease up on Bianconerri. It's hard being a minority. And the smaller the minority, the louder or more audacious you have to be to be heard. Give him (or her) our love and understanding and make sure they feel welcomed and embraced regardless of how idiotic their posts on Maxwell maybe.

Sorry, but the order of the "best journos list" bears a striking resemblance to how they are listed on the Age site........... but then I evaluated each one using the Damien Barrett methodology
Mick Malthouse?
