Done.

Source, the Age.
So let me get this straight?
They draft him for pick 12 I think one year and the very next after not playing one season he is traded for pick 8 and 35?
Well there is a trade if ever I have seen one...

More an indication of the quality of this years draft I would suggest.

Sounds like an in principle deal anyway, wonder if anything else involved.

The Saints yesterday settled on a deal for teenage ruckman Barry Brooks, a first-round draftee last year.

The Saints gave up picks No.8 and 35 in exchange for the ruckman but said last night they are also interested in French as an uncontracted player.

"If he's the best player there, we'll take him," said St Kilda chief executive Brian Waldron.

There could be more involved quite possibly, ie: Begley for a pick or something to that nature.

I really, really hope that rumour is true.

If it's accurate it would really make any potential draftee excited to be drafted by the Powder - NOT.
No ****. The best part is that Barry Brooks was a Port supporter before he got drafted, and he's got close family in Adelaide.

People on this site have been saying that players must stay at a club they've been drafted by for two years? Barry Brooks was drafted last year. Is that just bull$hit?

If a 12 pick from one year can go for 8th pick and 35th pick after not playing one game, how pathetic must this years draft be.
Makes me think that out of the McPhee,5th pick and 21st pick for headland deal that he biggest loss out of that is Mcphee.

Clearly a crappy draft this year.

Like Croady last year as well. Although Freo got Croad (which I am happy with) I thought it was disgusting what they did to a life long Hawks supporter.

Not sure I like the way footy is going. Thought Woewodin was treated very badly as well. Now theres news that Freo may trade Brown after he knocked back bigger offers not to go home during a season where we won two games!

Loyalty is becoming a dirty word.

I hope this is not true.

If St. Kilda gets stung in a deal like this, then I take back any claim that we are a good trading club.

We make a great trade for Everitt, and now we are giving basically the the same away for Barry Brooks???

Everitt for Brooks?

No thankyou.

Cmon Waldron...wake up...you've grabbed some great players recently and some fine draft picks...but this is getting on toward a joke. A fully fit Capuano, Knobel, Oliver and Kossie is just fine.

What about Clarke Keating? Or say #35 and Begley for Sir-break-a-legs-alot, small but handy B.Lade?

If we don't get Lade, we'll get screwed ;)

What a shocking trade. Forget any others, to take an untried player one year after he was drafted and has played no AFL games for two draft picks is shocking decision making.

The draft isn't that bad this year. Don't the Saints have an early pick? They would be far better taking one of this years talls who is perhaps just as much of a gamble with only pick 3 or only pick 8.

Exactly Footyman.

I'd much rather a crack at one of the big guys in this years draft.

If we are going to trade for Brooks we should give them pick 51, an old sock, the club mascot and Josh Dicketts.

Starting to regret trading Everitt now...

Freo still shopping Croad around in a big way according to 3AW despite what was claimed here about him being safe in the quad colours.

Pick 8, 24 and 51 for Croad sounds much better. Doubt Freo would be stupid enough to take it though!

As much as I'd be happy to see Port get picks 8 and 35 for an untried player who was selection 15 in last years draft it really stuns me if this one is true............

but then it is the silly season......

and to think Carlton don't want to part with with pick 18 for a ruckman who has actually played on the ground...........:D

I'm sorry I don't follow.

Last year in one of the strongest drafts he was a sure thing as a top 10 pick, he someone slipped through to pick 15 & Port was thrilled to get him.

Effectively Port have had their costs covered & we have picked up a quality young ruckman & kid, for around the same selection potentially last year (8) & given Port 35 as well. That is a kid with a years physical development & grounding in the SANFL.

Not to mention the Tasmanian connection, which is nothing but a positive considering our links to Tasmania as of this year onwards.

I don't think Port looses out, except maybe emotionally & I hardly think we have been screwed considering the big men on offer in this years draft.

Just given our current squad and ruck stocks it was believed he was being groomed over the next couple of years to come into the side.............

He also has a Port Adelaide connection through family and actually supports Port in the AFL.............

Yes it may be more emotionally that Port misses out but his trading appears to go completley against the original reason he was drafted............

but as mentioned many times previously.......it is the silly season.........

from the club's site.....

Barry Brooks was surprisingly still available at our first round selection (number 15) at the 2001 National Draft. Not so surprisingly, he was promptly added to our list. He is very mobile and very tall - 199cm.

Has played a lot as a ruckman but expect Barry to be developed into a key forward. He is strong, takes huge marks and kick the ball well (and easily from outside 50m). His stand-out event at the Draft Camp was the 20 metre run – he covered it in only 3.04sec, so he is not slow.

Barry played a handful of games for the Tasmanian VFL side in 2001 and was named in the Under 18 All Australian side. He was born in SA and has close family living here, including his brother.
