Barry Brooks v Byron Pickett...

Did anyone else notice the following???

From Port Website - "The Power traded young ruckman Barry Brooks to St Kilda, in exchange for draft picks No. 8 and 35. It then traded draft picks No. 15 and 35 to the Kangaroos in exchange for Pickett".

So basically they traded Brooks for Pickett & ended up with a draft pick 7 places higher!!!

I think it was more poor trading on the part of St Kilda

Also I think it was also poor trading on the part of Freo (or at least they had extra of what we needed)

We traded Pickett (who wanted to leave) for Leigh Brown and pick 35

looking at it this way makes it a bit more palatable

looking at it this way makes it a bit more palatable

Need to include the Cochrane- Stevens deal. Stevens was picked #5 I think. In comparison, Cochrane is not an automatic inclusion at age 24.

Considering both together makes it a bit more palatable.

I definitely agree that it was more of a St Kilda blunder than ours. If you look at other trades (ie Woewodin, Blumfield, Chick etc), then it is apparent that we got somewhere close to todays market value for Pickett.
St Kilda on the other hand gave way too much for Brooks. He would want to have some Carey like qualities to justify that.

I am also really surprised Freo have let Brown go at all, let alone so cheaply...
It's not as if they have too many tall defenders. They have Pavlich obviously, Macpharlin also, and unless I am forgetting someone, that's about it...
Anyway, not our problem...

I too think it is the St's blunder, they gave up #8 and #35 for Barry Brooks an impressive but UNTRIED youngster

Look at the market value for established players such as Pickett, Woewodin, Heffernan, Caracella etc etc. The St's got dudded.

I think we have come out of it pretty well.

But wasn't Barry Brooks touted as a possible high pick in a very good draft. Considering it is only a year on and this is a weak draft, you could probably say that had he nominated this year instead of last, he would have gone about number 4.

Pick 4 for pick 8 and 35 seems more realistic.
