Hopefully he'll be more successful than the guy who took his photo for the article.

I'm sure he's supposed to have a mean/ferocious look.
Unfortunately it just makes him look, well to put it kindly, a bit punch drunk already.

Shoud be interesting, as long as he doesn't think he's PPV material. Hopefully his fights are shown on tv.
You dont know much about boxing do you?

I think his comments regarding not wanting it to turn into a circus are more around not wanting the mundine style side show controversial promotion.

Im sure his first fight will be on PPV, and i am sure subscription will be high. He wouldnt be doing it if it wasnt for the money. He can still do it properly though. I doubt his first opponent will be very difficult, as you imagine would be the case for a first professional fight, but if successful he will gradually fight better opponents until he is at a decent level.

I dont think he will stay around for 10 years fighting bums though. Will give it a shake see how he goes and that will be it.

I wonder... has there ever been a time in boxing, world wide, where the average age is so high for "main events"?. Who the hell starts a career at 35?

No good will come of this, except perhaps a couple of decent pay days for Barry to get his arse knocked to the canvas.

That what happens when people are more interested in watching a name than a fighter. Boxing is such a crock these days.

Most boxers tend to hit their prime in their early to mid 30s so it's hardly unrealistic for him to give it a crack if he's been training his whole life.

And the homoerotic sport of MMA can call when it becomes even remotely entertaining. MMA's fanbase is clownshoes.

Yes, shouldn't take Barry too long to find out if he is up to a albeit brief professional boxing career, he might be able to notch up a couple wins before getting his clock cleaned.

& MMA, dont get me started, what a sad world this can be.

He's going to be in the heavyweight division I imagine? Pretty bare bones as far as talent goes, he could definitely notch up a few wins, but he'll get destroyed sooner rather than later.

Bet Brent Staker will be following his career closely. As will Adem Yze.

and he would be pretty 'boxing' fresh, different muscles etc and hasent been hit in the head too much, with the standard of heavyweight boxing in Australia he could possibly grab a national title within a couple of years.
Bob Mirovic held the title at aged 44..
Hopoate cant even box, hits like a truck though.
He will make millions of dollars, even from micky mouse fights i.e AFL v NRL superbout if marketed right, like someone said earlier..its all about the money. People will pay to see him fight.
However unlike quite a few that have given it a crack, Hall can actually box.
I saw him drop Danny Green at his football playing weight in a spar, he was much stronger, but Danny was preparing for a fight and very quick..Hall caught him. He has a great 'classic' heavyweights build too.

Yeah from what I've seen he's quite fast. I kind of expect him to be a real KO puncher, but that's just my clouded opinion based on his aggression in AFL.

Is he very technical, or more of an athlete/puncher?

If I recall correctly, Danny Green didn't go pro until he was 29 or 30 either.

technical, he is not actually a huge puncher, still could KO though... and for the record as a teen he was pretty handy with his feet.. I cant find it now but there was some footage of an early fight he had floating around cyberspace either kick boxing or karate, he was about 16.

I appreciate that it is a bit of a pass time for some people to tear down famous people having a crack at something different but in the case of Hall and boxing I just don't get some of the comments.

He would be one of the fittest athletes in the land after 15 or so years of the hardest training on the planet playing AFL, he already has been taught the correct technique as a junior boxer so that won't be an issue, given his speed on the field for a guy that size it is hard to believe he won't be a quick boxer especially when compared to a lot of the slugs that parade around in the heavyweight ranks.

So given his size, fitness and speed it is hard not to see him not going right to the top and in a hurry unless he is hiding a glass jaw which would appear unlikely. Good luck to him the sport of boxing needs someone like him to lift its profile in the country.

Good on Barry for chasing his dream. I hope he does well and I cant wait to watch his first fight. Part of me wants to see him get his lights punched out just once but on the whole as of now I'm a Barry Hall the boxer fan.
Hit 'em hard Barry :D
