You dont know much about boxing do you?

I think his comments regarding not wanting it to turn into a circus are more around not wanting the mundine style side show controversial promotion.

Im sure his first fight will be on PPV, and i am sure subscription will be high. He wouldnt be doing it if it wasnt for the money. He can still do it properly though. I doubt his first opponent will be very difficult, as you imagine would be the case for a first professional fight, but if successful he will gradually fight better opponents until he is at a decent level.

I dont think he will stay around for 10 years fighting bums though. Will give it a shake see how he goes and that will be it.
I know enough to know Mundine hasn't fought at 75kg for years.

I also know that anyone who puts his 4 round pro debut on ppv as a main event is a circus act just after a cash grab and has no intention of having a serious career and anyone that pays for it is an idiot.

I take offense to that, some like myself are just interested and wish him all the best or worst for that matter, it doesnt make you an idiot.. people pay for that greco wrestling MMA crap are they idiots too? They pay to watch Mundine enough said.. I bet after the first couple of wins most will be in his corner, just the title of this thread got you interested enough to comment.

I cant believe anyone would begrudge him having a crack at his dream, and/or to make a good earn..
Good luck to Barry 'Lights Out' Hall...:thumbsu::thumbsu:

He's going to be in the heavyweight division I imagine? Pretty bare bones as far as talent goes, he could definitely notch up a few wins, but he'll get destroyed sooner rather than later.

Bet Brent Staker will be following his career closely. As will Adem Yze.
Sam Mcfarlane too. Will be interesting to see how BBB goes against an opponent who's looking in his direction.

Not that its got anything to do with his boxing prowess, and Im replying to an internet hero but Scott Thompson was standing over a kneeling Hall and tried to push him over and shat himself when Hall reacted and Staker was behind him provoking him, and he only had to look at Hunter and put his left out and Hunter scurried off with his tail between his legs.. The North players that come in and tried to provoke Hall after the Hunter incident, Firito?.. were ridiculous, they were absolute cowards trying to look like heroes. Dipshits of the highest order..
Hall got absolutely nothing from the umpires so he was relentlessly scragged, held and interfered with. He wasnt a king hit merchant as you are implying.

^^This wasn't the incident with Sam McFarlane. Google it.

Staker wasn't looking, Rutten wasn't looking, McFarlane wasn't looking.

What Scott Thompson did pales into insignificance compared to Hall's many incidents, pushed him over, stupid, but funny how he wasn't reported for this disgusting act.

You call me a hero for pointing out that most of precious Barry's victims weren't ready for his hits. Facts are facts, deal with it. HERO

P.S. If he's good enough to win a few bouts, good luck to him, I'm just saying it's a different game and I probably won't be barracking for him (unless he get's to take on Mundine).

Got a cannon right hook, throws them from the hip,

Pure hitter, 3 rounders he'd start with.

He's gunna fight blokes that can fight..... over distance.

Dunno how he defends.

Will be interesting.

Yeh they are, but thats another arguement.

Im not saying im not interested, im just saying he has no right to charge people $40 to watch a 4 round fight between a guy whos never had a pro fight and someone who will no doubt be an easybeat.

If he gets a few wins and then fights someone half decent and is fighting 10-12 rounds then maybe go on ppv but to do it first up is just ripping people off.

He has every right to market himself as he wants.
It's then up to people to determine if they are willing to fork out the money.

I certainly wouldn't, but others might.

its a fair point Furn, but it will be a good fun card to watch, Ill be there and will enjoy every bit of it, or Id pay for the fox coverage regardless.. its good for Aussie boxing..
His announcement alone has got people interested and excited.

Looks like he is doing the hard yards..He should go alright.
Pretty sure that pic was when he started at the doggies, however he always has prepared at 110% and I see no reason he wont for his fighting career..
I think he will go ok but he has left his run a bit late, we wont see the best of what he would have had to offer if he started earlier.

"Former AFL star Barry Hall has set his sights on a career in boxing and a high-profile bout against Sonny Bill Williams could be on the cards."

I know Hall has said he doesnt want his boxing to become a circus but I doubt he will have any say in it, and to be honest I wouldnt blame him for chasing some good money at the same time.
I would of thought Hall would have a couple of easier fights first.
Sonny is fighting for a 'vacant' NZ heavyweight title in february I think..
Ive seen Sonny fight and he presents very well physically, he is strong but to be honest he is a pretty ordinary boxer. The word 'rigid' comes to mind..He has had 4 fights for 4 wins, 2 KO's.

Thats 4 fights for a national title, you would think Hall be an outside chance of a little success in Aussie boxing.

Would he be light heavyweight or heavyweight?
Light Heavy is 76-79kgs, Sonny is about 110kgs, Hall played at about 100kgs, I would expect him to get down to around 90kgs to fight.. Giving away a fair bit of weight to Sonny, however you have to take into account Sonny is still playing rugby.

Good luck to him. It's been a while since he swung at someone who was ready for it and able to hit back, but he has some skills and fitness. Unlike some of the other sideshows who go into boxing, Hall actually has a clue of how to box, not just swing haymakers.

Considering the age he's starting, I expect his first few fights to be easy moneymakers so he can gauge how he'll go in the real thing, while pocketing some cash in case it doesn't work.

If it does work, the quality should go up as he goes for a title shot, and tbh the heavyweight ranks are thin atm.

I'll watch him, and hope he goes well.:thumbsu:
