If Belly wants to coach at our club it should be a done deal.

Why is it that simple? Past players can just rock up and demand a job?

Bell is a champion player, that does not mean his qualities translate to coaching. It's an unknown, we don't need unknowns.

I think we need someone to walk in for the roles we have on offer and 'demand' them with some innovative and strategic thoughts on what they can bring to our club.

I thought that is the natural progression for ex footballers, become assistants then Head coach.

Let's face it, why would someone come over to us, if there is a similar job on offer in their home state.

Bell is a freo boy, get him on board in an assistant role, he just might be very good.

I really like the idea of keeping ex players with aspirations around the club. It breeds culture, something we lack.

I'm happy for Bell to join us if there is a major restructuring of the coaching dept. Not just a like for like replacement of Mitchell. How does that improve us?

I'm not really one for sentiment. Because he was an ex Freo player means nothing.

i dont have a problem with getting bell, IF, as has been previously stated we also get two of watters/eade/craig/michale/neeld/sanderson as well. Id even have a look at todd viney as well. he seems to be coming around to the prospect of being permanent coach, i cant see him getting the gig with all the talent available, maybe he would be receptive to a move west if not given the gig.

i would be filthy if we were to get bell and two other newbies. we need experienced heads i believe

BTW i wouldn't hire Bell under any circumstances. He is what you call a "high-mach" individual, could never tolerate being 2nd, could never play second fiddle to anyone and within weeks of taking the job he'll be destablising Harvey.

Bell had a reputation as a termite during Connolly era. I'm a bit unsure really. On one hand he's incredibly smart guy and I think his brain would be valuable asset in the footy dept. On the other, he may destabilise our club further because of his own ambition. I don't know really. Part of me wants him at the club, the other doesn't want him anywhere near it.

Belly is a fairly bright spark by all accounts. If his heart is Freo' I cannot see the harm in it. Would certainly offer another perspective and our club certainly needs that tactically and on match day. I'm not fussed one bit that he turned (allegedly) on Schwabolly.
