Definitely a case in point why you need confirmation before backing in the social media rumour mill.

Never saw him play but seen a lot of his career through film. He could play absolutely anywhere (think Adam Goodes).
Shame some of these brilliant players only sparingly saw finals throughout their careers.

Unassuming bloke, but somehow managed to be one of the larger-than-life figures watching the footy as a kid.

I enjoyed watching him play, made me laugh that he refused to kick the ball, would instantly and desperately search for the handball option.

Legend of the Williamstown Footy club back in the days the VFA was almost as good as the VFL.

Shattered for Barry's Family especially at this time of the year.

An absolute leader. He needed to leave the Bulldogs to be the number one ruck. Once at the Swans his career really took off. Built like a brick s***house, he was a mighty figure on the field.
Did amazingly well at Williamstown VFA as well.
Met him once in a pub in Richmond. A congenial giant.

This is so sad. Childhood legend. I remember running laps with the Swans at the Lakeside oval in the early 80s… we’d pop down after school to watch them train, and while you couldn’t join in training they’d let run alongside in the warm-up. Footy was just different back then.

Has any player been as big and successful in the VFL and then VFA as he? Probably, but maybe he was the last. Legend in two leagues.

Definitely wish there was some rule where you had to respect the family before posting, but you can't stop the media.

Forget the new 23rd game next season name as the magic or together round it should be called the Barry round. He did more than most most to ensure the swans survived in Sydney, a brownlow and over 300 games. The Barry round would be a fitting tribute.
