I'd like to see Fev in a decent side with a quality midfield. His record has been pretty good over the past 2-3 years in an average side.

Put him in the Geelong side and see him hit form.

I'd think a firing Fevola would be marginally more important to Geelong than a firing Bartel. But there are many what ifs in the equation.

Will Fevola ever become consistent?

Would losing Bartel leave a hole in the midfield that would make having Fevola not worthwhile as the forwards dont get enough service?

Personally I think its a bit of a myth about our midfield 'depth' we have many players in the senior team that can be rotated through the midfield, but at VFL level there isnt a lot.

If Bartel wants to go, and the Cats think that Tenace, Prismall or Shannon Byrnes can cover his loss in the midfield, so be it. They also have a first round pick which could be used on a midfielder also.

nana you could take that two ways

I agree there is nothing in the way of midfielders coming through. Bloody Haynes and Thurley were playing in there.

That's why we need a forward right now. Not wait the 3-4 years it will take for Ablett, and Hawkins to maybe become class AFL bigmen. By then we might have nobody.

We need to keep our first pick this year and get the best onballer we can but at the same time we need that forward. If JB want's out we need to bite the bullet and gamble.

Fevola may underachieve but as long as he underachieves with 50 goals like this year then I won't complain. And if he pays off he could easily kick 80-90. He's as sure as a good thing in trading terms.

Just an after thought....have the Blues already signed Fev? If so will we be paying through our arse just to get him, regardless of a trade?

I agree with you on this Nana, we have a lot midfield types but to me our depth isnt that deep.I think if we lost Bartel we dont have an imediate replacement of his quality. Prismall is probably pencilled in to break in to the side and I think he will be a good player but all our other players lack Bartels quality.

Who does?

Unless you've got a Chelski scenario (which is impossible here anyway) you'll never have a replacement of Bartel's quality.

Chelsea in the EPL.

Rich owner comes in, they spend a ludicrous amount of coin, put together a list of talent with so much depth it's scary etc.

3 way deal which would involve us, carlton, essendon. Players take a pay cut we give 1st round and bartel charlie and get fev and mark johnson. Hard tough midfielder replaced. Marking forward.

My pet hate.

The thing is though, if Bartel leaves and when get a a key forward - Tarrant would suit us better structurally, we can find a midfielder or two in the draft. They are not going to be Bartel's quality but it is a lot easier to replace midfielders than find KP forwards.

We have Prismall, who seems physically ready for the AFL, we can pick up a Lewis or Sherman et al., a strong bodied u-18 midfielder that may not have a hell of a lot of improvement in them but are ready to go. Pick up a goalsneak as well, there are always a couple around, and that gives us the option of Ablett, Chapman, SJ spending more time in the midfield.

I hope he stays though :(

They'd fit right in with Steve Johnson then! ;)
:) He he. His parents came and sat in front of me at the SCG semi-final - they were in the wrong seats, got chatting to them simply 'cause they were the only Geelong supporters near me. Told them I loved their son, and they said "Yes, if only he'd quit drinking..."
:p
