Your a prick RBAW!

Adelaide - will stay about the same, have the talent to go up, but haven't got the coach to do it.
Brisbane - Will be there-abouts again, probably the best home ground advantage in the league.
Carlton - Will drop, God only knows how far.
Collingwood - Expect to see some improvement from them as Malthouse has had a year to see what he has got, and what he can get.
Essendon - Will probably win it again. DOH!
Fremantle - has to push for the 8 next season, if it has another poor year, Drum is gone.
Geelong - Barring injuries have the team to finish top 2. Were good enough to finish 5th this season, should rapidly improve.
Hawthorn - Similar situation to Geelong. Have a side with enough potential to challenge the top few sides, expect a top 4 finish.
Melbourne - may struggle next year now that teams are awake to them. However, should still manage a top 4 spot.
North - Will drop down and will start to re-build.
Port - Should improve but need to kick more goals.
Richmond - The other side good enough to make the top 4 if injuries don't hit as severely next season.
StKilda - Won't finish last, will start to improve under Malcolm Blight.
Sydney - Should struggle again, all depends on their recruiting, may make the finals if the draw is kind to them.
West Coast - will really struggle next season, probably be two years before they are competitive again.
West.Bulldogs - You never can tell with them, could finish anywhere between 2nd and 12th.

My 2001 ladder:

Essendon
Geelong
Hawthorn
Richmond
Brisbane
Melbourne
Port Power
Fremantle
___________
Adelaide
Bulldogs
Carlton
North
Collingwood
StKilda
Sydney
West Coast

Sydney to finish second last ?????

ARE YOU SERIOUS ????????

In 2000, Sydney had the 4th best defence in the comp. It is worth noting the 3 best defences in the league were Essendon, Carlton and Melbourne. These teams finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Sydney lost about 5 or 6 games by 8 points or less. If Paul Kelly was playing, they more than likely would have won all of them.

Paul Williams, widely regarded as Collingwood's second best player will be joining the Swans midfield next season, which is sure to boost their scoring ability. While an Aaron Hamill potentially would be ideal as a forward if he goes to the Swans as suspected. Michael O'Louhlin is probably the most skillful player in the league.

I rate Sydney VERY highly. They were unlucky not make the top 4 this year, taking into account the Paul Kelly factor, and the loss of many close games.

I think the Swans will be in the top 4 in 2001. They are one of the most underrated teams in the competition. Rodney Eade is also a fine coach.

I have a funny feeling that the Swans are a potential Grand Finalist in 2001. There arenormally about 4 or 5 "potential" Grand Finalists every year, so this is not really a big statement, but if all goes well, the Swans could finish as high as second.

Don't be surprised. There is always a big "mover" each and every year.

I don't think the Eagles will finish last. They had a shocking year this season but mainly because of injuries. They will return in 2001. Maybe not in the top 8 but definately not last.

I dont do a mock 2001 ladder until the whole trading period and drafting has been done - but I definately think that Sydney will be a serious force for 2001 if they have recruited Hamill to join Goodes, Kelly, Ball, Locky, in their forward line.

gocatsgo while I reckon the eagles wont come last next year I cant see them being a top 8 side under Ken Judge

The reason Adelaide have the problems they have is

That Blight didnt plan longterm
More shorterm/quick fixes

U take the good with the bad
One side that got u 2 premierships

But it meant the sucess would only be breif

Yes Sainter, Second.

If North and Carlton drop as most expect, and Geelong finished 5th after the H&A season this year, with the added players such as Murphy and White (fingers crossed) and the experience gained by the young players this season - Take a breath!

Then we could easily finish second. I'm not saying they will win the Premiership, I'm saying that they will improve to have a big say in who does win the Premiership.

North to drop as "most expect"? I hate to tell you this, but ladder positions are determined by playing football matches, not by telephone polls. We had a shocking season, and yet finished fourth. Geelong had a season that exceeded everyone's expectations, but you finished 8th. Now what happens if North happen to have good fortune in 2001 while Geelong's luck (such as it is) goes missing?

Round 1 of any season is usually too early to predict the ladder at the end of round 22. You're trying to do this with the last season barely a week gone.

ok some may or may not like my predictions but as some have said trades and drafts arent deffinate yet

1 essendon
2 melbourne
3 geelong
4 bulldogs
5 hawthorn
6 kangaroos
7 richmond
8 brisbane

9 carlton
10 freo
11 eagles
12 sydney
13 port adelaide
14 adelaide
15 collingwood
16 st kilda

Right, you probably all, or some know I am one of the few Eagles supporters who actually still reckon Ken Judge is a great coach. I seriously think, not only as a eagle supporter, think the eagles will finish in the 8, but only just and that KEN JUDGE WILL SHOW YOU ALL. he came to a team on the downfall, no one could have stopped it, but now he is cutting and culling the squad to what he wants as he now knows his team, and will recruit who he needs.

Its just becoming more and more even year by year.

I would guess that ALL sides (yep even the Saints) are a shot at a finals possie. If injury a 'soft' draw and even little things like copping other teams in the middle of them having a slump can all help to lift or drive you down.

I look at the Hawks and think, why did we have to cop Cummings/Matera and Gehrig all firing at the same time as proof. If we could have played them early or late then chances are we could have won.

Im with Dan over Sydney though. I still rate that side and Rocket has done it again picked up a great mover for the SCG in Williams. If their great white hope in fitzgerald can stand up they have a pretty well spread talent list to choose from.

Also Brisbane still has the talent to push the Dons. Im hoping the Hawks can makes some more improvments in the midfield and challenge for top four. Id be happy with that but expectant of big things come 2002.

To slide, Carlton. Little depth and over reliance on three players, Kouta,Ratten,Campo. Nth while maybe staying in the eight look likely to drop of the leaders. The Doggies too i reckon. Still no talls of note and Wynd will be harder to replace than many think.

Improvers Saints and Port. Saints through some good recruiting and early draft choicess. Port just getting some experience on board reminds me a little of the Hawks of 97/98.

The others i think will pretty much tread water.

I think predictions of Carlton's demise are a bit premature.

Don't get me wrong, I hate Carlton as much as I hate these S-11 dickheads, but somehow they always come up with the goods (Carlton that is).

Expect them to finish somewhere between 3rd and 8th, and once they are in the finals they'll bloody shake it up again, you can bet.

Don't get me wrong, a Carlton wooden spoon would make my decade but it ain't going to happen.

I don't think the oranges are terminal yet either.

Grendel and Dan24

Thanks for your vote of confidence in the Swans for next season guys - I am quietly confident we can at least make a 5-8 finish next season.

But look people - its far too early for these sorts of predictions. We have 6 months of pre-season to get through yet.

I will always remebr what happend to us in the 1996-97 off season. After making the GF we were pretty pumped in that time and looking forward to going one extra in 1997. Then on Christmas Day 1996 Greg Stafford was jogging quietly along a beach when he stubbed his toe on some rocks. It turned out that he actually broke it - the injury ended up plaguing him for the rest of the year and our pre-season was pretty well ruined from that point onwards. The rest is history.

So you see - we might look the goods at the moment but the pre-season is so full of traps and slip-ups that our 2001 campaign is only a broken toe, wrenched knee or dislocated shoulder away from disaster.

All clubs are in this same situation for the next 6 months.

cheers

My ladder (subject to change in the pre-season of 2001) is :

Oh, and by the way, I have made some dramatic ladder changes, as there are always some "smokeys" that come from nowhere. Who would have though Melbourne would go from 14th to 3rd ?

1. Essendon
2. Sydney
3. Richmond
4. Melbourne
5. Brisbane
6. Kangaroos
7. Hawthorn
8. Carlton

9. St.Kilda
10. Fremantle
11. Geelong
12. Adelaide
13. Western Bulldogs
14. Collingwood
15. Port Adelaide
16. West Coast

Don't anyone believe the demise of North. It might be a demise, but it will be a gradual demise over a few years. They know how to win games, and they've got the leagues best coach.

Watch for Richmond to be the big improver. They've got a great young coaching staff and a hungry "injury free" playing list.

St.Kilda to make the inevitable jump that lots of wooden spooners make.

Sydney to make the most of their chances, which they didn't do in 2000. They have the most 'underrated' list in the comp, in my view.

Hard to pick a wooden spooner. Look for the Weagles to be the best wooden spoon team since Brisbane of 1998. I mean, who else is going to come last ? Collingwood ? Nah, not under Malthouse after an improved year (win-wise). St.Kilda ? Nah, they won't come last. Just won't happen ? Port ? Nah, too many games in Adelaide; they'll win their 7 or 8 games, like 2000.

That leaves West Coast. I'll probably be wrong, but that's what "speculating" is about.

This is what i think the ladder will look like next season
1 Essendon
2 Melbourne
3 Richmond
4 Geelong
5 Carlton
6 Brisbane
7 Kangaroos
8 Fremantle
9 Hawthorn
10 Bulldogs
11 St. Kilda
12 WestCoast
13 Sydney
14 Adelaide
15 Port Adelaide
16 Collingwood

Actually, I am not sure what the ladder will look like but it the gaps between teams will be a lot less and any of the 16 teams can make the 8. Since all teams will be really competitive this should be the best and closest season we have seen in decades.

BSA, yeah I'm with Dan on this. How many games did you guys lose by <12 points without Kelly? I'd also expect Richmond and Hawthorn to improve. The Tigers were hard hit by injury and the Hawks impressed me with their enthusiasm. A few less skill errors and they'd have been in a prelim.
