Basil interviews Leon Cameron

Rompingwins and his obsession with family is annoying: you can tell he is trying to make it his "thing" but someone should tell the idiot that the only reason no other commentator has done it before is because, genuinely, not one person watching cares about the names of the family of sports players!!!
I think what's even worse is that he isn't the first to do it. The one and only Dwayne Russell loves nothing more than spending a good 5 minutes discussing a player's background and family. In between all his bullshit catchphrases of course.

How good is footy on mute?

Yeah, good point, dwayne has been known to bring family into it before. But Rompingwins has taken it to a whole new level. you can tell he actually researches who family members are specifically so that he can inject it into the call is his robotic tones. He took something bad, from Dwayne of all callers, and made it his own, horrible signature move.

Basil has no idea.

Just as funny as when Brayshaw on the Footy Show thought Nick Smith (out for 1 week due to soreness) was Alex Johnson (5 knee recos), went on and on about what a great story Smith is to be returning after so long..

..except it had been a week.

Brayshaw has obviously done a great job at North. But every now and then he comes out with a comment that betrays his complete lack of footy knowledge.

On Triple M recently they were talking about GWS's Academy picks and someone pointed out that GWS had 5 first and 2nd round picks coming their way this year, and also 5 Academy players who were worth Top 25. And Brayshaw confidently jumped in with "Well how does that work? You can't draft 10 guys." It was then explained to him that they need to use those 5 high picks to get the academy players. He then spoke as if he knew that all along and immediately changed the topic, but he sounded EXTREMELY unconvincing.

I was quite surprised that a Victorian club president wouldn't have the Academy bidding process tattooed on their brain with all the aggro associated with it right now.

Hamish talks about family because family is the only reason he has a job.

Basil has one claim to fame - calling the Bradbury. Which us a neat analogy to gis whole career.

And let's not let Dennis off here - he is responsible for Basil's career. And it is incumbent upon a leader to not leave until a good successor is in place. And there isn't one.

Why the **** are they interviewing coaches during a game?
What value does it add?

Very little.

But the form team of the comp played in front of an alleged crowd of 9,000 odd today (and likely closer to half that). They better be trying something.

Basil has a long track record with this type of shit.

Every single time I've seen him on those "Game Day" crosses where he updates people about footy news, he usually gets something wrong.

Generally it's like a score or a margin of a game, or saying somebody kicked x amount of goals when they actually kicked y, but this ****-up was one of the worst I've seen from him.

Like honestly, as a very layman footy fan, if you asked me who Leon Cameron was, I'd be able to tell you instantly that he was the GWS coach... commentating sport is Basil's ****ing full time job and he doesn't have a bloody clue what he's talking about.

See, if he just mistakenly said the wrong team (Bulldogs) but actually meant to say GWS, it'd wouldn't even be that bad, but Basil clearly thought Leon Cameron was ACTUALLY the Western Bulldogs coach.

The dude has NFI, and he probably isn't even a real footy fan. The reason guys like Cometti and Bruce have been so good for so long is because they're actually passionate about footy, but ****wits like Basil and Hamish couldn't give two shits, and only have jobs because the people at Channel 7 also don't give two shits.

Say what you want about BT, Richo, Ling, etc, who all have annoying qualities, but at least they actually enjoy the game, and it's not just a job to them.

Basil and Hamish are just suits, and to make matters worse, they're both complete and utter morons to boot.

EDIT: Oh how I miss the days of Clinton Grybas (even though he wasn't Channel 7, was easily the best commentator going around back in the day).

Well, at least he acknowledged his gaffe..

Acknowledging the bleeding obvious doesn't make it the slightest bit better. Staggering that something like this could happen from so-called professionals that are employed to have a basic understanding of what they are commentating on. Cringeworthy does not do justice to today's stuff-up.

Seriously Channel 7, **** him off. He's awful. Get Jason Bennett who commentated the GWS - Essendon game last year to take over Basil.

Unfortunately wont happen.
He's a close personal friend of the owner of channel 7.
Mr Stokes loves him, and has made this known in the past.

St Kilda Vs North Melbourne -

"Petrie-ation Day" - Petrie's 300th and compared it to Mother's Day

Tom Hickey having a set shot at goal - "The ball bends back through the indoor breeze" (The game was at Etihad Stadium)

Most channels, including 7, are too scared to take a punt on a young commentator and instead go for experienced dinosaurs with no clue about the game.

And new commentators are always ex-players, for some reason, even if they can't commentate at all.

this times 100. That's whats frustrating.

A lot of the commentators just dont even know the players. When a 1st or 2nd year player gets the ball you often hear silence, replaced by "bulldogs clear the ball out of defensive 50". BT, Basil and Hamish are the biggest culprits. If the number on the players back isnt visible half the time they dont know who has the ball.

These guys are not professional. Just watch every NAB game and practice calling the game. I bet they dont do that. If they did they wouldnt make so many mistakes. Today even Commetti incorrectly called a GWS player Mohr during the 2nd quarter, despite Mohr being injured with a hamstring on the bench since the 1st quarter.

Basil keeps calling Bailey Williams Marley. He's gonna have a field day next week during Dogs vs Pies if they both play.
