Basil interviews Leon Cameron

Oh Basil, you really are a shit-kicker. When idiots like BT make those sort of mistakes you can excuse it somewhat because at least he brings some colour to the broadcast. But when you have personality of a beige sea-urchin and you call the game with all the enthusiasm of Stannis Baratheon reciting the 4x Tables, it's inexcusable.
Very very good.

This is why all sport should be on pay tv.
Well....

....maybe not

Basil has no idea.

Just as funny as when Brayshaw on the Footy Show thinking Nick Smith (out for 1 week due to soreness) was Alex Johnson (5 knee recos), went on and on about what a great story he is to be returning after so long..

..except it had been a week.
Wow, did this really happen? No excuses for such ignorance.

Basil seems to be obsessed with who the recruit of the year is. Yesterday, during the Cats and Pies, he kept talking about Dangerfield being the recruit of the year, but Treloar is up there with the recruits of the year.
One play, Treloar gets it and has a quick kick and in the space of about 3 seconds, Basil tries to tell us how Treloar is up there with Dangerfield as both the recruits of the year.
Then, today watching GWS, Stevie J is also one of the recruits of the year.

I love his in depth analysis.

Wasn't in-game but my personal all-time awkward moment was Eddie's "I was just trying to mumble my way through it" back peddle after comparing Adam Goodes to King Kong on live radio.

Not sure how to link but even listening to it again all this time later, I cringe and squirm.

I don't think it's a lack of research as some have suggested, his brain simply couldn't separate the fact the bulldogs were playing and Leon used to be a great for them. He probably had in mind to say something along the lines of we cross to former bulldogs great and now GWS coach Leon Cameron but got lost in the moment.

There's a lot to mentally process whilst giving the impression of it all being quick, intelligent and on the money. Not forgetting there's the actual play to call as well. I'm not sure if Basil will ever get up to speed and be able to mentally process it all fast enough.

The greats make it look easy. I feel a little for Dennis. I think he's already having to make compromises for others inability to keep up and get any of the clever remarks and observations. Good wingmen and commentary teams form great working relationships. Not sure where Basil is going to fit.

Basil is in career worst form this year, which is just really shocking, horrific form. The Cameron gaff is a stand-out, but he is consistently, 3-4 times a quarter, making errors in both play-calling and other waffle.

His case is probably helped by Rompingwins distracting everyone with extended biographies on a player's aunt and uncle and other inane nonsense.

You nailed it.

People don't realize how many errors Basil makes in general play-calling. He is honestly so bad there would be daylight between him and the next worst - and that is saying something because we are talking about some pretty poor commentators here!

Rompingwins and his obsession with family is annoying: you can tell he is trying to make it his "thing" but someone should tell the idiot that the only reason no other commentator has done it before is because, genuinely, not one person watching cares about the names of the family of sports players!!!

These two are a joke.

He struggles without a teleprompter.

I really wish they would stop interviewing coaches or assistants in the box.. im sure they have better things to worry about than answering ******ed questions.

Not to mention the cringe factor.

Spot on. It's not like they will give a considered answer or offer any insight given they've got other things on their mind.
