Real talk tho, Matisse is good people. I think most non sixer watching or NBA watching people would be pretty weirded out by an American dude playing for aus but Matisse would win over people pretty quickly with his personality and the way he plays. Him and Ben together would be chaos on defense for some of these international teams.
He actually fills a real need. At World Cup we defended the three and defended the basket but our guards weren’t quick or long enough to bother guys who could play mid-range. Simmons and Thybulle can push up on the three and then recover to challenge these shots. Rubio and Fournier killed us mid-range. Baynes and Bogut can then just concentrate on protecting the rim, which they do very well. They will also defend so much better than Delly et al against the pick and roll and switches. Simmons can literally guard pretty much anyone from 1 through to 5. He is a defensive freak.
They will be absolutely terrifying on D for anyone other than the US.

Yep, guys like Landale, Bogut and Baynes were caught trying to cover Rubio and Gasol, which they weren't equipped to do.
Anything to get Delly off the court. He's just about run his race as anything but an end of bench guy if Ben comes on board. Could also get away with playing Ben at the 5 as well in short bursts with Bogut getting a bit long in the tooth.
Simmons playing with Mills, Ingles, Baynes and Landale will be glorious - can all shoot the three, bar Simmons, so still plenty of spacing and room for Simmons to attack the rim. Mills the only guy under 6’8 so we are huge. And three genuine creators on the floor.
Delly to specialise in towel waving and rah rah from the bench.

s**t show of a semi final with the other team not arriving in time to prevent a forfeit. Spent 20 minutes watching them, the refs and stadium management argue about if the game was going ahead. Ended up playing 2 x 13 minute halves, won by 25 and are into the Grand Final in 3 weeks.
Here's to hoping they manage to finish the season but I can see it all going **** up somehow.

As an Aussie I'm really disappointed that Ben is injured.
As a Celtics fan I'm really happy we won't face him R1 of playoffs. Maybe Embiid too.

76ers are a bit like the bombers - not constructed the right way so less than the sun of their parts. Think you build around Simmons or Embiid but not both - they aren’t particularly complimentary.
You want Simmons surrounded by 4 lights out shooters, just like Bucks have done with Giannis.

The problem is he's not good enough for that to be a viable, championship level thing. It would be something that could look aesthetically pleasing and really exciting to watch but Giannis is another level, a lot of is due to his scoring mentality which Ben just doesn't really have.
The problem, for me, isn't Ben & Jo together. Yes, they're not a perfect fit and yes it can look a bit clunky but on the floor together they're really good. The problem has always been the complimentary pieces around Embiid & Ben and the fact that during Embiid's entire time in Philly has hasn't one guard that's been a pick n roll type guard who could shoot off the dribble. Not one. In a league that has them in abundance and seemingly every team has an elite one, they've ever found one for Jo.
Even Jimmy last year, he's a reluctant shoorter and more a guy who wants to drive and not someone who is going to take and make a lot of 3s in pnr situations. Shake Milton is probably the best guy they've had since Embiid started playing that was actually a decent threat to pull up. Shake Milton.
It's the same with Tobias as well, Tobias is alright but he's another guy who would rather try and iso or post up mismatches.
Embiid is just so ridiculously good, the fact he's done all this without really ever having the sort of team with proper spacing for him is wild. If one guy gets punted, it's Ben, I think. But I'd rather neither of them do, not a few more years at least. They're both so young and have barely played together, guys don't win chips until really their late 20s, early 30s.

The recruitment of Horford seems a strange one too. It probably works out due to Simmons and maybe Embiid being out of playoffs but you didn't really need a 4-5 paint player.
Philly should be comfortably better than both Indiana and Miami but they're not and I'm not sure why.
It's weird I liked the Horford addition in the offseason, I thought his 3 ball would be better but yeah it hasn't really shaped out. I like him coming off the bench and then playing in line ups with Ben since he can pick n pop but you don't really want to pay $25million a year for 20 minutes of off the bench Al Horford.
I still liked the Sixers chances vs anyone healthy in a 7 game series where they could lock in, even with the shakey regulay season because of the defense upside to clamp down on a wing heavy team like Boston, but it looks like that's in the toilet now, unforunately.

You guys were the one team I didn't want to face in first round of playoffs. I'd back us to beat Brooklyn, Indiana, Miami and Orlando in a 7 match series, but you guys make me nervous and Milwaukee are simply better than us.
Still half a shot if Embiid goes off, it's looking like a likely first round series. But without Ben, the flexability to guard the Boston wings is mostly gone and Tatum likely goess off. Losing to Boston again in the playoffs tho will send me bananas.

Also depends on the severity of Embiid's ankle injury. Theis' defence has improved enough this season for me to think he can somewhat cover Horford, but I don't trust him on Embiid.
The keys for us are obviously Kemba, JT and I think Brown has been great since moving into the bubble too.
Thiess is good, but at the end of the day, he wouldn't be able to hold Embiid 1v1. But Brad is smart enough to know that, that's why they're so good at sending doubles at Embiid from all different angles and times (like on the catch or as he starts dribbling) to confuse him, and there's where the sixers poor lack of spacing and outside threats kill them, it doesn't really get punished. It sucks, Embiid has looked incredible since he got to bubble before the ankle.
Ah well. I don't really know who I want to chip when the Sixers get bounced, I kind of hate every other team involved for one petty reason or another. Maybe I'll just become a TJ Warren superfan.
He’s not Giannis but you can contend with him and another star. He’s a unique talent. It’ll never happen but in the back of my mind have always thought Portland seemed like a perfect fit. They need another star next to Dam to go next level, CJ is nice but not nice enough.
Agree but disagree re the Sixers - Ben and Joel are clunky together, in each others way. They still win on talent but the chemistry isn’t there.You are right re shooting off the dribble though....add in that they routinely get torched by small guards who can shoot off thhe dribble because they are the one thing Simmons can struggle with defensively.
