It's sad how much the interest seems to have fallen away for this. Been happening for years.

That said, the best part of the week for me is the Bathurst Channel on Fox. Have been watching heaps of races from yesteryear, the nostalgia has been fantastic.

Attendance and TV numbers would probably suggest otherwise.

I more meant in this board.

I do wonder how much of the attendance is for the actual 'Bathurst' event, rather than the actual racing though.

I used to camp up there every year with my old man but we haven't been back since before Covid. Had some memories come up on FB and it had me itching to get back up there with the old boy.

No doubt its about Bathurst itself, its an unbelievable place to watch a car race and a pretty cool little city to boot.

I do wonder what the future is for the 1000 though.

Interesting that Payne & Brown, currently 2nd and 3rd in the Drivers Championship, both failed to make the shootout.

Brown has a dodgy ankle, having injured himself playing touch football. Not sure why Payne failed to make the cut, given that he's been consistently quick all season.

There must be at least 10 drivers shaking their heads and wondering WTF they were doing, given that they all let Mac Jones qualify ahead of them. Anyone who ever finishes behind MJ has had a shit day at the office.

Macca has had the odd decent quali performance this year, he'll trickle backwards on Sunday mind you.

Staggers me they flicked Evans instead, but at the same time no it doesn't

Brodie had a nice big whinge in the press conference about the parity again.

Would surely be better coming from someone in a Mustang that didn’t just qualify in provisional pole.
Bloke is perfectly placed to judge really.

Waters was on the front row last year too, and nowhere in the race.

But then youd have to understand the nuances of the cars.....

Read the second part of that post mate.

I read it, and it made little sense.

Hes been talking about it all year, and the proof is there. Hes lightning across the top of the mountain, but the Ford guys have to take bigger risks to make up for the straightline disadvantages. But in a race scenario it means very little as you cant pass up there.

But this is the problem with parity. Once you say you're going to be a parity series, then you leave yourself with very little wriggle room if there isnt absolute parity.

They've ended up spending way more money than they envisaged and they still havent got it right.... and now they've got a 3rd car coming in and everyone is concerned that Toyota might get a helping hand.

Id have left it as an "engineering" series where the teams were given a bigger rope to do what they wanted to do rather than trying to have everything the same.

Your last paragraph is so valid.

I work with two guys who were race mechanics for Colin Bond, Dick Johnson & Glenn Seton. Some of the stories of what they got done and how creative they were are genuinely incredible (if not very amusing).

It’s so disappointing they’ve gone down the ‘control’ route.

I get they wanted to control costs and "even the field" but its done neither of those things.

The best teams before are still best teams, the money is arguably as high as its ever been and there's been a multitude of issues with the cars outside of the parity stuff.

Skaife just had an almighty sook before practice, saying "you need to back it up with science", V8Sleuth posted the science this morning

Closest category in the world, fords either equal or more of them in top 10, yet the blue oval brigade non stop whinge.

Things may change over the decade but that never does.

They make English cricket fans seem well balanced
A lot of words there for not a lot of knowledge
