I dont like it but the alternative is a greater risk of a lapped car ruining the race. There were a few near misses yesterday in the driving rain with the rule

No... the alternative is to have lapped cars cycle through pit lane after SC re-starts. This shuffles them to the back of the pack (cleansing the order for those on the lead lap), while still maintaining their relative positions for their own individual contests.

Having said that, I think the race organisers could/should have been a bit more willing to show blue flags to the lapped cars.

That final 20 min when the fog dropped certainly set a precedent.
I'm reading the 50 year official history book atm, up to '83 and i note friday prac was red-flagged for fog.

• It's amazing just how far up the grid some finished, just by staying out of trouble. Even Feeney finished 6th after being parked at Forest Elbow for a good chunk of time. I barely remember seeing Cam Hill all day and he ended up top 5.

If you just manage to finish at Bathurst you can achieve something (it's an achievement in itself). As they say, you're not just taking on the other cars, you're taking on the mountain too. 1000km on a challenging and unforgiving deck means plenty won't get there.

Historically that's certainly been accurate, recent history suggests less so.

Last year only 1 car wasn't classified (ironically this year's winner).

The rain certainly made it a far bigger challenge (and therefore a much greater spectacle).

Strangely enough, it was those already locked into the finals who made the biggest mistakes on the weekend, Payne aside.

Wood probably didnt make many either, his car just gave up.

I agree with Waters dropping down with no mention was a big miss, i did notice it and was waiting for a replay of some sort but nope, nothing. Also zero mention of Feeney at the end, i wonder if it was because of the Lucky Dog rule that they didn't wanna talk about a guy who was laps down and still had a shot to win if there was one more SC. Ditto for Waters.

I've been thinking yeah Whincup is losing a bit but correct me if I'm wrong, he pitted on the restart to get wet's and then basically drove back near the front in one stint? In those conditions i thought that was very impressive. Most of it against other co drivers probably but still very good.

Weather 100% saved that race, if it stayed dry with not much SC action the two RB's and Murray would have won by a mile.

The Brad Jones Racing driver was running in sixth place and set to earn enough points to pip Kai Allen to 10th in the standings ahead of the Finals cut-off.

However, as onboard vision from Feeney’s car shows, the charging Red Bull Camaro was all over Heimgartner on the final lap and managed to overhaul the Kiwi into The Chase.

Heimgartner ran through the grass on the exit and crossed the line seventh, one place ahead of Allen on the road but ultimately three points behind in the standings.

“I guess what could have been,” reflected Heimgartner, who shared the #8 Chevrolet with Declan Fraser and sat fourth with just nine laps to go before fading on older rubber.

“Up to third at one point, just didn’t do tyres in the stop. So, it might be advantage [initially] but ended up costing us in the end.

Nepo-baby hasn't been confirmed yet, but it would definitely be a big shock if he wasn't driving for BJR next year. He certainly won't be driving for anyone else.

I’ve hit one before as well as missing quite a few others by narrow margins. One thing is for sure is that the cars from the 70’s never came off second best when they hit a kangaroo. I lived in Charleville when I was younger and made many trips with my parents at night to Toowoomba or Brissy, etc.
