After 24 Hours, over 3500 kms and over 600 laps of (nearly) straight racing, they managed to get both cars home, both on the lead lap and within 1 second of each other.
And it showed that after 23 Hours and 52 minutes of racing, they were able to put out fastest laps while still being able to race each other for the lead. Any car company around the world would love that sort of publicity.
Well done to Peter Brock - the great man (and a personal hero of mine) has done it again. Proof that with the name Brock in your corner, you'll be one step ahead of the rest of the field.
I have to laugh at some of the comments on this forum.
A few facts for you, about hte Monaro.
The Monaro runs a 427 CORVETTE Engine. It has a NASCAR Chassis and runs a FORD diff.
The car itself is nothing like a REAL Holden at all, and well isn't even close. I had to have a nice old laugh when I saw on the front of the car "Genuine Holden Parts". Thought that was quite comical.
Most of the cars in the field are cars straight off the showroom floor (or close to it). The Monaro is a purpose built race car. In my opinion, it shouldn't be allowed to race.
You say that "wow they stayed on the same lap".
I will tell you a few things. I was down at the mountain, as was my dad and brother. They were flaggies.
The Monaro's were short shifting. They didn't even come close to driving that Corvette to its full potential. The reason they stayed on the same lap, is because that is the way it was planned. It was deliberate.
How come, Tander can make HUGE inroad into the lead of the 05 car, yet when he catches it, can not pass it? I mean come on.
And their little 'dice' at the end of the race? Load of crap, it was designed for Brock to win the race. The Porches, which couldn't keep up with the pace of the Monaro, was suddenly able to tail the Monaro down conrod.
Get a grip.
As for "How did the Ford's go"? Pretty well actually. The STANDARD Fords, which were driven straight out of the factory, finished 18th outright. The Ford XR6 TURBO finished 20th outright and SECOND in its class. The HSV was in the same class as the TWO GT's and was some 100 laps behind.
I found a few other things interesting. On thursday, Gary Rogers took a paper around trying to get the BMW kicked out of the race because "it is a built race car, and shouldn't be a in a production car type race". WELL HELLO MR PURPOSE BUILT CORVETTE/MONARO RACECAR, I WONDER WHERE I CAN BUY ONE OF THOSE.... GEEZ, THATS RIGHT. .. I CANT!!
Also, Mr Pamer boss of Pro-Car stopped the only big Ford challenger coming into the race. The new FORD GT overseas, built for racing at Le Mans. Apparently not enough of these cars have been created and it is a "built race car".
Double standards are amazing in this place.
Also, "Number 10 to Brock"?
Four of his so called wins were given to him (jumping into another car, inheriting the win in the 80s after the first two were disqualified).
Then this one, which is not a Bathurst 1000. He has won 9 Bath 1000 (actually probably less considering it used to be a 500), and 1 Bathurst 24 hr.
They have the light car club on the mountain, I am sure some guy has won 20+ races on the mountain!
Peter Brock also had the advantage in his whole career in being part of the Holden Dealer Team, or the Holden Racing Team.
When Ford gets new technology they spread it amongst the teams, whereas Holden give the technology to the HRT team first, and the the other teams later on. Therefore Peter Brock always had the advantage of having the best car. Considering he raced in 30 odd bathurst, 9 was a reasonable return for the advantages he had and the amount of times he was there (and considering alot of his win were inherited).
I ignore the first two cars, as they should not be in the GT class.
Good win to the Fitzgerald Porche.
