season 2 on 10.

lol yeah it is brilliant mate... but wait till you get to season 3, which just started last week after a 6 month break. It's a total frakking mindblow. Not to mention the fact that Starbuck is the hottest thing on television.

What I love about the show is how the good guys can commit some seriously heinous actions (rigging elections, suicide bombers etc) yet the audience is compelled to sympathise with them. I found myself supporting *detail removed*, even though it goes against my every belief about democracy. If this show was set on Earth, rather than in Space, everyone with half a brain cell would be watching it, as it's more of a drama than a sci-fi fantasy.
I prefer my shows to be in shades of grey (BSG, The Sopranos, The Shield) rather than black and white (Law and Order, CSI).

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

Gotta agree. Can't believe this show is not on at a decent hour. 9.30pm on a Wednesday night would be the perfect timeslot.

If the X-Files were treated like this early on, even that show wouldn't have made it in Australia.

BSG is a bit of a drama, but it has the definite Sci-Fi elements to it eg. Cylons originally built by humans to help the humans eventually turn on their maker, and the intriguing one is the Cylon's belief in a god. The element of having 12 models of Cylons who look just like humans is good too.

Not to mention the 12 colonies of hman beings based on the 12 signs of the zodiac...and the search for the mythical 13th colony...Earth.

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

I hate sci-fi shows where space is involved but I keep reading good stuff about this and will probably pick up the dvds soon. I think the fact that Veronica Mars now uses the word "frak" means that I will definately check it out.

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

I have watched the first two seasons and BSG is so brilliant. I loved the last episode in season 2 - that was the best ending - totally unexpected and completely different to anything ive seen before.

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

I love the occupied france analogies on occupied New Caprica - that scene where the toasters march into new caprica was fantastic. Makes the Star Trek franchises look decideldy soft c-o-c-k. Can't imagine a suicide bomber from the Enterprise!!!!

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

Last week's episode from the U.S about Helo and the religious fanatics was decidely ho hum. It was definitely the weakest episode of season 3 so far.
For me the best episode of season 3 episode 9, which was centred around a series of boxing fights. Watching Apollo and Starbuck punch the s h i t out of each other as they worked out their issues was top stuff. Plus that ending was so cathartic.

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

Since we're on the subject, you'll be glad to know that BSG has just been commissioned for fourth season. However season 4 will only have 13 episodes, but the upside is that there's a possibility of a straight-to-dvd movie that will be set in between seasons 3 and 4.

Prequel in the works as well called Caprica about the birth of the cylons [they are so evil and cool!]

Star Trek's are 'Days of our Lives' in space. Their sugary socialist utopia of everyone exists to serve 'humanity' and worldly possessions don't matter makes it about the worst Sci-fi franchise out there. Going off-topic Rodenberry's Andromeda is way better then any Star Trek for this reason.

I've only see the first season but Andromeda is pretty corny...especially with the "power rangers" like special effects.

Thats why I love BSG so much..... sparing with the corn (unlike the majority of space sci fi)

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

I'm still watching the shows late on ch10 (are they series 2 or 3?). It is fraken great. It just keeps getting better and better.

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

Does anybody remember the original series?

There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. They may have been the architects of the great pyramids, or the lost civilizations of Lemuria or Atlantis. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive somewhere beyond the heavens...

Re: Battlestar Galactica is brilliant!

Firstly this show is not politically correct in todays western world, thus its not excepted by mainstream tv.

It tells you all facets of war, there is no traditional bad guys or good guys.

Take a look at why the Cylons attacked the twelve colonies, they got a point.

The acting is inspired, the weapons, tactics and such realistic, no fancy lasers or wonder weapons or unbelievable technology.

There best weapon is a nuke.

You dont got threw 40 minutes of "oh no we are doomed" and in one scene everything is all dandy.

It shows religon for what it really is and all facets of religon in war and how personalities really cope in dire circumstances.

It makes you think about the perception of tactics used by all sides in the middle east.

Not every episode "works" but alot are simply stunning.

In season two when the pegasus was around you thought they would of played on the the attack on a Cylon fleet, after all, the other SCI FI/war shows like to feed us graphic destruction of the "badies" but this episode the destruction of the Cylon fleet was a side dish, they had you hooked on other stuff.

Briallant mind games from the makers.

Never ever seen tv like this.

Not a show for the viewers used to ratings tv.

You actually have to think and you actually learn.

There is one major negative, I cant find any hot pics of Starbuck
