Borgas was in good form before he broke his arm or leg or whatever he broke. I hope he can get back to that form. Maybe he should get some grade runs under his belt 1st. I think he only came in for Lehmann anyway.

We can talk about it all we want, but I dont think there is any answers about what the State side should do. I thought playing Deitzy and not Manou was the go, the he hits a 190. Borgas was our only decent bat last year, now he is shite. I though Fergy was our future, has only just got in. Our two best bats by a long shot are both injured and our captain should of never been made captain, totally fu#*ed his head. Elliott is on his way back and to me Delmonte is out of his league. Our VC cant get a game! Only thing I know 100% is cut the amount of district sides to 8 maximum. Everyone agrees but no one will do anything about it.

I dont know anything about our grade set up? What they should have it as though is 8 as FB said^ then have a relegation system. Given a few years this will decrease the step-up from grade to state level. We gotta improve SA cricket from the ground up IMO.

If we go from the ground up, cricket in the country has to be badly looked at. When I first started playing juniors the standard and the numbers were quite good. The drop off since then, and thats about 10 years, has been dramatic. The standard of country cricket in SA is really poor nowadays. You get the occassional great player but not much. Then in junior grade cricket theres too many levels. Under 14/16 Reds and Whites. There should only be one level in both grades. I know so many young guys who go down there and they say "Oh I play for East Torrens" or "I play for the Gullies" and half these kids are no good. If you cut out the "white" level, you get greater competition for spots and the kids improve.

The 8 team idea is a good 1. A few clubs have been struggling for a long long time, namely Port Adelaide and if you merged a few teams then youll again have greater competition for spots and greater improvement in the players. Now someone said earlier that the current champs Tasmania's grade cricket is worse. Im not sure about worse but it wouldnt be any better. And until pretty recently they havent been much chop at state level bar a few class players, e.g Ricky Ponting and David Boon. The difference down there is they have a very very good junior development program which as you can see with blokes like Hilfy, Birt, Paine, Butterworth etc, is really working. We dont have that, really we dont have anything and this is why our State side is such a joke.

Agree but hard to do much about this. There is a 'player drain' in country cricket because kids move to the city once they have finished school and are lost to country cricket. Saturday trading has also meant that kids 14-16 who have part time jobs aren't able to continue playing cricket either. Plus we are becoming a time poor society and people have less leisure time to devote to cricket so teams are losing senior players.

Agree with this. The grade clubs should be the elite. They should keep the Ray Sutton Shield (U/13) and the Bank SA Shield (U/17) and add an U/15 competition. Get rid of the season-long U/14 and U/16 competitions. Short, sharp, intense junior competitions catering only for the elite players. School and community cricket should be there to cater for the many.

Ten teams would be perfect. Piss off Uni and two clubs merge.

Don't agree here. SA has regularly punched above its weight in junior carnivals (U/15, U/17, U/19) and the U/17's won it last year. The U/19's admittedly struggled. In Cosgrove, Ferguson, Borgasx2, Cullen, Bailey and Tait our system has produced some outstanding talent recently - three of these guys have CA contracts FFS. The trouble is not in producing/finding the talent - it is finishing it off and progressing from talented first class cricketer to consistent first class performer. Grade Cricket plays little role in this stage of a player's development. We need to look elsewhere to work out why some of these players have lost their way 2-3 years into their first class careers.

I think the way Tassie develop their guys all the way through is the key. We threw those guys in pretty early and raw whilst Tassie dont tend to unleash their kids until they ARE ready. Its a continual development cycle whereas the SACA do a great job idenifing talent but dont do a great deal to further it on. In the case of Cosgrove the problem is purely and simply attitude, the guy is a tosser. Probably the most talented bat this states had in many many yrs, but a tosser nonetheless. I think a few of those guys had the "Second season blues". After bursting onto the scene theyve dropped away a bit except for King Shaun.

We all know something needs to be done and done quickly but we arent the ones in the Ivory Tower. I suppose the only way is up but how long is it going to take.

As for picking Borgas instead of Plant, its a strange one. I think ultimately Cam is a better batsman but hes in horrid form. I know a few people who saw Plants innings Vs Sri Lanka and they said it was the ugliest 100 youll ever see but I mean he showed some determination and guts, which Cossie aside :D none of the rest do.

Over 110.4: WICKET - Katich tries to work a straight one from Harris through the on side, misses and is trapped dead in front --- NSW all out 309...well played Katich 117

Over 109.5: WICKET - Bracken tries to slog Cullen, edges it straight up into the air and is held by Gillespie at backward point - NSW now 9/309 a lead of 131

Well looks like we can't establish a decent opening partnership and the Red Sea will not be parted for a long while.

Ferg should have been picked first game. If Adcock does not make a score this innings, some serious questions need to be asked.
