Pretty hard to break the drought when he cant get a game for them

Why are you getting stuck into Ferguson here?? If it's from the personal argument then  You are better than that.

He's the only one that has stood up over the course of this 4 day game, will retain his spot & all you can do is bag him.

Hell, after one game he's beating the captain and several others in the runs department.

Top effort Ferg :thumbsu:

There was a reason he wasnt getting a game, it was because of the drought.

You say im getting stuck in, but im not really. Its simply a valid criticism of him, which i make because i know Ferguson could do better. The guy has every tool he needs to be a great player, but needs to go on to make big scores when he makes a start if hes to reach that level.

Infact, that criticism could be made for the redbacks in general. Alot of our batsman continually get starts, and fail to go on with it. 9 batsmen or so reached double figures in our second innings, yet no centuries.

well guys: we've had another reasonably big loss.

it's a bit sad. but we will improve

Our 2nd XI state team are up and running in their first official match of the season (played a trial-game against NSW earlier).

After winning the toss and batting we are currently sitting at 212/8 after 81 Overs.

Aaron Sayers is on 46 and Jason Donnelly is on 4.

Tom Plant made 32 and James Smith 47.

again just failing to go on with it, looking good for a while and then falling just short. Donnelly can bat a bit and Sayers is a big hitter - i think these two could stay in for a while. let's hope so.

Batting Averages
71 Ferguson
70 Gillespie (*picked as a bowler)
51 Bailey*
49 Manou +
29 Lehmann
28 Cosgrove
28 Delmont
26 Harris, R*
24 Elliott
17 Deitz
13 Cleary*
11 Harris, D
10 Cullen*
8 Adcock
5 Borgas, J
3 Borgas, C

So we only have 1 player who is picked on their "batting" ability alone averaging over 30.

Our bowlers have been averaging more than our "batsman".

Where to from here?
Really struggling in the top order - could do with bringing in the in form Plant.
Can hardly drop Ferguson.
Boof & Cossie should be automatic selections.

But who can be dropped? Can't be Adcock given he is captain (otherwise he should be).

1. Elliott
2. Plant
3. Cosgrove
4. Ferguson
5. Lehmann
6. Adcock (would prefer Delmont)

Ok, neither of those links work for me, but ill take your word.

I must have misheard that on the news. Probably said something like 'hasnt scored a century since...'
CJ Ferguson Australian FC centuries:
114 v Western Australia, Perth, 2004/05
103 v New South Wales, Sydney, 2003/04

Prior to his match v NSW (just gone), his average at home was 32.0, opposed to 37.4 away. The more I look at it the more that means little. The day he shows what we all know he can produce will be an amazing day.

In an ideal world the team for the next match would look like:

1. Elliot
2. Plant
3. Cosgrove
4. Ferguson
5. Lehman (Captain)
6. Delmont
7. Manou
8. Harris
9. Gillespie
10. Cullen
11. Tait

Assuming Tait is unavaliable put in Cleary assuming Cleary is unavaliable I'd like to see them give George or Sayers a run.

An ideal world wouldn't have Elliott in it. IMO Plant would be better suited for #3, but I don't think he's done enough to warrant re-selection just yet. Take out his century v NSW a few seasons back and his FC average is roughly 10. However, he's certainly matured a lot since then, and his ton v SL is evidence.

Daniel Christian

here is the SACA Media Release from earlier today:

Media Release
Tuesday 13 November 2007

Daniel Christian invited to train with Redbacks

The South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) today confirmed NSW all rounder, Daniel Christian, will be moving to SA and is expected to be selected to play for the West End Redbacks against WA in the Ford Ranger Cup on 21 November 2007.

The 24-year old will arrive in Adelaide later this week to join the SA Grade Cricket competition and commence training with the West End Redbacks squad.

“Daniel played in every Ford Ranger and Twenty20 match for NSW in 2006-07 and was desperately unlucky not to be given a contract by Cricket New South Wales this year”, said SACA High Performance Director, Rod Marsh.

“I have spoken to Cricket New South Wales, CEO Dave Gilbert, who is very supportive of Daniel’s move and the opportunity that has been afforded him to further his career.

“He has the potential to fortify the Redbacks batting line-up, take wickets with his aggressive medium pace bowling, and is a brilliant fieldsman.

“Daniel has spent time at the Cricket Academy and was a member of the victorious Australia Under-19 World Cup winning squad in 2001-02.

“Daniel has not been contracted by SACA but Australia’s domestic cricket competition is the most competitive outside of the international arena and we have a responsibility to consider all potential players.

“With the amount of injuries sustained by Redback players this year having Daniel in SA will provide selectors more options for all forms of the game.”

Daniel is of indigenous heritage and has previously captained a New South Wales Aboriginal All Stars team.

played for NSW against SA in the 2nd XI trial game late last month. Bowled quite well in that game and can be a big hitter of the ball at times too. Could be a good pick up for us. but we'll see.

Haha yeah true. I should say he does have talent but hasnt really followed it up, given the strength of the NSW squad. His bowling is medium pace at best but reasonably accurate and he can bat a bit. Another Ryan Harris type player but without a bit of Rhino's pace.

did anyone else here 5aa with Rod Marsh ???

how bloody funny was that !!!

Marsh is the type of bloke SACA needs :thumbsu:

They've had him for a couple of years now. What have we seen? A few Poms drift in to play Grade Cricket for a few months and now a fringe player from interstate.

I thought he only came in last year ?

we have cut a lot of shithouse players from the team, and hopefully a few more.

But apart from Elliot who else have we brought in since his arrival ?

From what I remember he was a bit of a basher/crasher/smasher yes??

Do remember his excellent fielding. That's enough to get him over here at present, regardless of whether he can hold a bat.

Hell, he's got to be better than Cam Borgas

Id be willing to try anything at this stage. How crap we are at cricket is getting beyond a joke. We have the best cricket ground in the world, surely we can produce at least a little bit of the good cricket that the Adelaide Oval deserves. We dont deserve the honour of playing there.

He hit about three or four sixes in his ODD debut iirc. I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes. I'm not sure what the SACA is expecting from him, though, because generally we're competitive in one-day games which is what he'll be playing for starters.
