Here we are in 2018 and still Bayside City Council has zero wheelchair access playgrounds.

Zero!

Bayside's municipality includes the suburbs of Beaumaris, Black Rock, Brighton, Brighton East, Cheltenham, Hampton, Hampton East and Highett.

Its great to publicize they're right behind supporting the disabled yet here lies the wheelchair childs reality!

Not good enough!

I agree with cartwright. Being proactive about it seems like the easiest way to solve this.

IMHO legislating genuinely all abilities playgrounds at Federal and State govt level is the real way to solve this.
Then local Councils involvement is one of compliance to standards which can be audited.

None the less, I will contact them directly.

plus wheelchair friendly surface. Pretty hard to roll a wheelchair over bark

The natural enemy of wheelchairs are chip bark and steps both of which are in our closest playground.

The term "all abilities" is being thrown around a fair bit nominating net swings as an example.
I disagree on the basis that "If kids in wheelchairs can't access on an equitable basis then its not an abilities playground".

Examples:
Normal swings with a fenced off wheelchair swing beside them.
Carousel's which have spaces for normal kids and wheelchairs (either raised deck level with Carousel or the Carousel is sunk down level with ground surface.
Activities that wheelchairs can make their way to and interact with safely.

Sounds like you have a more progressive council.

I can't see relocation as the answer to Bayside disabled population who are looking for inclusion in their suburbs.

LOL Brighton is only 25 minutes to the city. Frankston is at least 10 minutes longer than what you stated.

Mate, didn't mean to sound abrupt. It may be relevant for others but our son is not great travelling so Frankston is out of the question at least in our case.
