Another season, another wonderful collection of numbers produced by the sim. Welcome to the season 31 edition of Baz Stats.
This season, we pick up at the halfway mark as my attention was focused elsewhere earlier in the season, and my stats are currently up-to-date and I can't be arsed doing it round by round for the first two months. Like last season, I will present the top 5 players by position by Adjusted Dream Team, which takes into account offensive and defensive performance of each player. I may not keep up with this strictly weekly in real time but it will be presented as weekly between now and the end of the home and away season.
For those new to the league or my work, I measure each stat of each player's stat line against all other stat lines recorded for that position in the given season. I then do the same thing for each player's defensive stats, which are based on the stats of the player directly opposed to them at the beginning of the match. The net effect results in an adjustment that is applied to each player's raw Dream Team score.
The goal of the Adjusted Dream Team score is to account for defensive performance as well as reduce the impact of weather. A player who scores 100 DT in fine conditions but concedes 120DT will usually be scaled down while a player who scores 60 DT in muddy conditions while conceding 40DT will usually be scaled up.
It is not a flawless concept as a back pocket that moves to the ruck will naturally score much better than a back pocket who does not change positions however all players have an equal chance of being moved or benched and over the course of a 17-game season, most of these errors iron themselves out.
Also like last season, I will provide an interim All-SFA team that is based on ADT scores and a minimum match thread posting contribution (TIF beat me to posting this by mere hours. Bastard!)
