Probably a squad issue. Surely you need to not have too many players that will likely be picked.
Yep, it's poor management. They know that the ODI series falls in the middle of the BBL and should know that signing those players would be a risk. I guess the Strikers are the same with Carey, Head and Stanlake but, with no Head in the ODI team, he comes back to the Strikers.

But who would expect Handscomb?

Anyway could be worse, could have thrown everything at 2 internationals who can only play half the tournament leaving your team with no quality batsmen...

You mean the Thunder?

We have another batsman coming from NZ.

Handscomb was unlucky but Zampa, Maxwell and Stoinis aren’t surprises

Maddinson
Dunk
Larkin (they'll sign him as a replacement for one of the stars)
Gotch
Bravo
Gulbis
Merlo
Plunkett
Boland
Bowe
Beer

They have the batting depth. Plunkett, Boland, Bowe, Beer, Bravo and Merlo/Gulbis will be able to bowl well enough to keep them in the game

No, but If Handscomb was there they cover those 2 easily enough.

Maddinson and Handscomb for Maxwell and Stoinis would have been fine. Not like trying to replace thget best T20 batsman in the world with some Kiwi hack

Cricket Australia insisted that each team play one of the "home" games at an alternative venue in order to spread the game to regional centres that don't have a team.
No problem with that. The Heat can play a couple games on the Gold Coast. Stars/Renegades can play a couple games in Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo.

Sixers/Thunders - Canberra, Newcastle, Central Coast, Wollongong
Strikers - Alice Springs
Hurricanes - Launceston
Scorchers - ???

I am not sure whose responsibility it is to choose the venue, CA or each team. I think the Scorchers are playing their game at Alice Springs, but the CA website is such a pig that this information on venues and home teams is pretty hard to find.

So even Adelaide only moved 1 game? So much for all teams had to play their extra 2 games elsewhere...

Perth didn't move any.

All the teams that took 2 games away within their state (Gades to Geelong, Heat to GC, Canes to Launy) all made sense. But the Stars to Moe and GC was a bit of a head scratcher.
