BBL|08 Semi-Final 1: Hobart Hurricanes (10-4) v Melbourne Stars (7-7) @ Blundstone Arena
Thursday 14th February 2019 7:30pm AEDT

Hobart coming off a loss to the Thunder while Melbourne are riding high after annihilating the Sixers. The 'Canes will also have to avoid the minor premiership hoodoo where 5 of the 7 minor premiers have lost in the semi final.

Hobart Hurricanes XIII
  • 13. Matthew WADE (c)(+)
  • 32. Qais AHMAD
  • 22. Jofra ARCHER
  • 10. George BAILEY
  • 64. Alex DOOLAN
  • 44. James FAULKNER
  • 1. Caleb JEWELL
  • 28. Ben McDERMOTT
  • 12. Riley MEREDITH
  • 24. Simon MILENKO
  • 15. David MOODY
  • 31. Clive ROSE
  • 23. D'Arcy SHORT
In: Doolan, Faulkner
Out:

Tom Rogers out of the squad. Faulkner will make his return, who will make way? Moody was Faulkner's replacement in the team but Meredith's had a poor 2 games and could also be in the firing line.

Melbourne Stars XIII
  • 32. Glenn MAXWELL (c)
  • 22. Jackson BIRD
  • 47. Dwayne BRAVO
  • 51. Ben DUNK
  • 13. Seb GOTCH (+)
  • 4. Evan GULBIS
  • 54. Peter HANDSCOMB (+)
  • 1. Sandeep LAMICHHANE
  • 36. Nick LARKIN (replacement player for Travis Dean)
  • 53. Nic MADDINSON
  • 16. Marcus STOINIS
  • 17. Daniel WORRALL
  • 63. Adam ZAMPA
In: Gulbis, Larkin
Out:

Jackson Coleman out of the squad. Larkin is eligible after Travis Dean injured himself in the Futures League. Will he come in for an out-of-sorts Nic Maddinson?

Weather
12-21 - Possible shower. Partly cloudy. Slight (30%) chance of a shower, most likely in the morning.

Someone said on another thread that Meredith was playing futures so he will probably make way for Faulkner.

Wade and Short to get out cheaply and the Canes to panic and fall in a heap.

Have a feeling this might be the match to watch. In the BBL08 and the winner of this match wins the GF.
Hurricanes have been the team to beat this season.Lead by the dynamic opening pair of left handers. If anyone can turn it on and beat Hobart it's the Stars. With potential match winners in there team.

Media want Stars to win. CA would like an all Melbourne final. Go Canes.
Lol, CA would hate an all Melbourne final, Sixers would be their preference and Short and Wade are the media favourites, as if the media don’t want the Hurricanes there!

I just hope we see a great batting innings from more than one of Stonis, Maxwell, Short and Wade

quick cut & paste job from cricinfo:

Melbourne Stars have won the flip and will bowl first

Hobart Hurricanes 1 Matthew Wade (capt & wk), 2 D'Arcy Short, 3 Caleb Jewell, 4 Ben McDermott, 5 George Bailey, 6 Simon Milenko, 7 James Faulkner, 8 Jofra Archer, 9 Clive Rose, 10 Qais Ahmad, 11 Riley Meredith

Melbourne Stars 1 Marcus Stoinis, 2 Ben Dunk, 3 Peter Handscomb (wk), 4 Glenn Maxwell (capt), 5 Nic Maddinson, 6 Dwayne Bravo, 7 Seb Gotch, 8 Evan Gulbis, 9 Adam Zampa, 10 Daniel Worrall, 11 Sandeep Lamichhane

So James Faulkner replaces David Moody for the Hurricanes and Evan Gulbis comes in for Jackson Bird in the Stars' XI

Tassie captains are no good at the toss / bat flip.

Punter, Paine, Wade all shocking luck.

I'm going with a Stars W. If that happens I think the fixture will be changed to an IPL format, especially considering the Scorchers' fate last year.

Weather report: Stars to shine brighter as the night progresses with no chance or hurricanes. At least I hope so. Got on Stars a few weeks back at 15-1 for outright.
