I get that CA now have a contractual obligation to have 59 games because of the TV deal, but it's ridiculous as a Gades fan we officially secured finals last Wednesday (despite being very up and down) and have to wait until next Thursday or Friday for our final.

No-one really watches it for the "quality" (otherwise more would watch international T20's), so CA should bring three teams in (Say Gold Coast, Canberra and Geelong) and have those 11 teams play each other once which makes 55 games. Have a 4v5 wildcard then the semis with 1 v wildcard and 2v3 and then the final. The season would be shorter as CA can schedule a double header on Friday and Sunday and a triple header on Saturday. I also think 10 games for each team was the right amount

If you think the quality of games are bad now as well as the squad lists, I’d hate to see what amateur hour cricket we will get adding a further 3 teams and spreading the talent pool even thinner.

Only way this even remotely works is if the entire comp is played without any national duties going on for the duration and if international spots are increased to 3 or 4 and a higher salary cap to entice them.

I'm pretty sure that's on the cards as it is without expansion. CA would prefer their competition is rated better than the BPL.

The Big Bash has run during these Test matches and always will, that will never change and of course neither should it.

I think the Shield before/after Xmas split should be 5/5 rather than 6/4. Ignoring BBL|02 (Dec 7), the Big Bash has started on Dec 16, 20, 18, 17, 20, 19, 19. I'd rather see it start a tad earlier. More double headers is a no-brainer. Every team should play a couple of games during the day on a weekday.

On a positive note, this is the first season ever that did not have a 2-3 day break over Xmas. Prior to this season, BBL had never been played on Xmas Eve, this season we had 2 matches.

Another no-brainer is that the final should always be on either a Friday night or Saturday night, thus the semis should be Tu/We or We/Th, not Th/Fr.

For the sake of the test team, I actually think the BBL should start a little later (say 22nd or 23rd) and that they should try to squeeze another Shield round in before the BBL starts, even if it comes at the expense of the JLT Cup.

But agreed wholeheartedly on the double headers (and even triple headers on Saturdays or Sundays if there's a public holiday the next day) and not having a big break over Christmas. The BBL shouldn't go any longer than 5 or 6 weeks to give it the best chance to maintain the public's attention

My thinking re 5/5 split is we want players in form to be a chance for Tests in Melbourne and Sydney, and whatever is the Test before Melbourne.

And then after Christmas, depending on our international schedule, we want players in form to be a chance for our first overseas tour of the year.

But unfortunately the cricket schedule changes from year to year. Maybe our summer schedule should also be flexible.

Saturday night would be the best time to have the BBL final but that would probably be a Foxtel only game with the current tv rights agreement.

Friday night would be a more likely option as Ch7 could show it and it wouldn't clash with their precious MKR but not many grand finals are scheduled on Friday night, they are usually Saturday or Sunday.

Even though Ch10's BBL coverage was superior to Ch7's coverage they did the same thing as Ch7 are doing, showing the final on a Sunday afternoon so it would be a lead in to whatever shitty reality show they were running at the time.

Anyone who thinks BBL is bad for Australian cricket.Needs to have a rethink. Sure CA has made some mistakes with the format in 2018-19.Also BBL08 has been unique in comparison to the other 7 series.With spin bowlers dominating the series over the batting.
Just on another topic.Have heard nothing out of the Scorchers for a few days now.Over last Sundays night match and Qadir jnr speeding fine.
Last Sunday night doing 50km over the speed limit and having a sponsors car impounded for 90 days,by the police.

^ To its detriment, in recent times I think the BBL has had too much of a focus on pace rather than medium pace. Give me a good bowler with varying speed than some numpty like a Shaun Tait-type wayward bowler.

With regards to Sunday night finals and those precious little children that need to get to bed, last time I checked, the Super Bowl was on a Sunday night, and has been as far as I can recall. But here in family-friendly Australia, we have to think of the children.
