Wow this is big for any Stars/Sixers fans. Heard he will be taking up a commentary role for this season as a result.

That's shit but have enjoyed his commentary in the JLT so will be good for BBL if that's the case.

I wonder if interest will hold? It's a nice summer holiday routine to get into - few beers, sit back and watch, always a game on. But going so deep into February when everyone is back at work, back at school...?

Spot on, it's good fun for a while but they should be careful it doesn't overstay its welcome. Who even won it last year? The interest is usually dissipated before finals, and it'll drag on even more this time.

Do people really care about the franchises? I watch a few games but have never felt any attachment to "Melbourne Red" or "Melbourne Green". The marketing has been very forced, and could see interest drop off quickly

I really do care for the Scorchers, I guess it helps that a bunch of the WA state players are also Scorchers, and the internationals stay for 2-3 seasons generally

Doesn't help that those two franchises haven't been successful at all.

I could understand if you're from Melbourne and Sydney and have no real attachment to a side. But being from a 1 team city it's no different to following the local A-league or NBL side IMO.

i reckon if there was just 1 Melbourne team i'd get behind it a lot more... but the 2 franchises and their fake rivalry from day 1 is just a bit of a turn off

Short won't be that good again and Archer will be up against it to be that good again. Rest of the team is junk apart from McDermott, Wade, Bailey and Milenko's decent with the bat. Botha is a good pickup.
