Double headers would have made more sense between Xmas and and last weekend when more people were likely to be off work and therefore able to watch/attend.

This isn't the first odd day they decided to schedule a double header - off the top of my head they did the same on Jan 2nd, when Jan 1st would have made more sense

Couldn't play the Sixers-Stars game then as the SCG was being prepared for the Test match and you couldn't play the Thunder-Scorchers game for multiple reasons including the Thunder playing both the day before and the day after it as well as the whole Scorchers already playing on NY Day.
