Hey all,
Just a thought, it may or may not be practical, but just throwing it around...
How might it be if Cricket Australia let all the players know that from 2024 onwards, the T20 International squad would be selected from the players who played a majority of BBL games from the previous season?
I say 2024 onwards because that gives the current international players a chance to make their arrangements for the 2023/2024 BBL season.
Points for:
If we had an All Australian BBL team for last season, who might get a guernsey?
My top Aussie players from last years tournament, in not particular order, would be
Marcus Stoinis
Josh Phillippe
Ashton Agar
Ben McDermott
Darcy Short
Glen Maxwell
Josh Inglis
Jason Sanga
Kurtis Patterson
Mitch Marsh
Sean Abbot
Aaron Finch
Nathan Ellis
Aaron Hardie
Hayden Kerr...
I am not saying all those players should be in the current international squad as, yes, there are some better players in our current international team or who were injured last January (such as Jhye Richardson).
Not many of the current international players are listed because most of them didn't play BBL last year BUT if they were told that the policy was changing they might change too. And if that happened, SOME of them would make the squad.
I realise that people are not sold on T20 but it appears to be here to stay.
My question is, would this be something worth considering or are people happy with the status quo?
If a system such as this was set up, how might it work?

Points for:
- We are selecting the in-form T20 players
- It makes the BBL season more meaningful / valuable to the players and hopefully fans and broadcasters
- some injured players may be left out
- some of our more talented players may still choose not to be part of it
- keep the BBL to a December / January tournament
- There would need to be some allowances for test players (I'm not sure how that would work though)
- Maybe those in the test squad need to play a minimum of 5 BBL games to qualify for the T20 squad?
