Excellent final really. Close all the way so it was great to watch.

I thought heat were 20 short on that track.

They had a real dip & were right in it at the 19th over mark. I didn't expect Nesser to bowl 2 pies in a row to lose the game like that. He's had a brilliant season, so it was sad to see it finish that way for him.

Congrats Scorchers.

Great post! Outstanding season by Perth.
Many here seem to delight in running down the BBL & T20 Cricket generally.

Much of the criticism I’ve noticed centered on how we don’t have enough “star” players whether from OS or Oz players with international commitments.

I would actually much rather watch a team that trains & plays together than a manufactured collective of mercenaries who have no connection to the place they’re playing in beyond signing a fat contract.

How much more does it mean to guys like Hobson & Connolly struggling to break in at the top level to live out a fairy tale ending than an international collecting a medal then heading off to the next franchise competition.

I thought the BBL this year was of a high standard & generally really entertaining & it got the final it deserved.
Another thing that’s surprisingly overlooked by the fans of the game is the best Shield players aren’t necessarily the best BBL options. Same as how the best Test players aren’t the best option for World Cups.

From the Perth side non of Turner, Tye, Connolly or Hobson play in the Shield, but are wonderful BBL players.
From the past, one of the Scorchers all time greats was Simmons, a destructive match winner. He was just a Grade cricketer who was well suited to the T20 format.

Perth have great depth because they pick intelligent squads.

Great contest, right down to the wire. Turner obviously playing a captains knock to drag Perth to near victory. But then to see a 19 yr old, enter the contest, with minimal batting exposure of late, in front of 53K screaming fans, and a title on the line, grab his opportunity and drag his side over the finishing line, like he did....sums up the kids ability and temperament.

When Turner was out it looked game. It's pretty rare you'd see a kid come in and do that. But I'd have backed Turner to get them home too with the form he was in.

Phenomenal game - atmosphere and crowd were something else.

Kind of telling that rather than celebrating a 19-year-old in his fourth game and a part-time accountant coming out and doing what they did with the bat last night, people are still whining that we're not overpaying the 40+-year-old superannuants to get them over from the bookies world championships in the UAE.

There's a poll running in the HS saying 67% of people reckon the Scorchers at full strength would beat the Aussies.
Has a fair bit of data to back it up.

I wouldn't bother with Mr Pickett.
He didn't even see the game.
Would be interesting to see the teams side by side, but I'm taking the Aussies, especially if I get to pick my specialist T20 team and not just shoehorn in test players.

I think if there was a Champions League type competition the Scorchers would go very well.
I think the issue with people who don’t recognise the names etc of some domestic players, is more to do with them not really following domestic cricket.

It’s pretty much why we needed a new format like T20. To get people intersted in cricket again.

Your random follower is going to see a name like Connolly and think he’s a nobody, but a person following the game is well aware of who he is. Just like we are expecting names like Wyllie, Wasley and Collins to be pretty common in the years to come.

But the radio man, some dude on the radio said Hardie over pitched a ball.

As for the Scorhers beating Australia, I haven’t seen that thread, but the Scotches are clinical. If we got Marsh, David and Green, I seriously think we’d give it a crack.

Remember a better team will beat a better set of individuals. Perth Scorchers have got a team chemistry going.

Well done Scorchers, they have put Perth on the global map thats for sure. Also looking at that XI that played yesterday for Scorchers I'm not sure any of them are playing for an IPL sides in 2023?

It's an article in the Herald Sun which I've posted in full on the West Coast board.

It's not just going on ability.
The formula involves variables like teamwork and trust.

Here are the sides named:

Bancroft
Green
Marsh
Inglis
Turner
Hardin
Agar
Tye
Richardson
Morris
Behrendorf

Smith
Warner
Stoinis
Finch
Maxwell
David
Wade
Starc
Cummins
Zampa
Hazelwood.

A lot of people really going hard against Hobson in this thread.

Bringing up his job as an accountant is really mean and I wouldn't wish it upon anybody.

I graduated with an accounting degree, but even I will admit it, its nothing more than book keeping profession.

I suggest for him though if he has a choice of globetrotting his career as a cricketer or going full time as an accountant. Its a no brainer choice. I reckon he has some potential to possibly play in some other T20 leagues around the world.

Hope we get to see that Scorchers team at some point next season. You’d struggle to lose with a side that needs to have Hardie batting at 6 to fit everyone else in

Look he was good yesterday but he is pushing 30 and has been quite average in the BBL to date. I don’t think he’s getting a look in any other league

If your not a Scorchers fan , it's like baracking
For Liverpool when Man United were dominating
Or the Hawks of the 80s
You just get sick of them winning every year.

I have mates who are insufferable Sydney Sixers fans. Have never cared when Perth have won because it means their biggest rival hasn't.
