Can play - 195cm, CHF/FF, great set of hands, very good kick and moves around the ground very well.

Queries on his rehab and if he will be ok, will know more once he is tested again b4 the draft.

Is he capable of playing well at CHB or just a forward?

Worth a pick at 4? Or hope he slides to 20?

There seems to be alot of people happy for the Blues to take him at 4 so was after some thoughts on the lad. Personally, I would like Swallow no.4 but Dowler has obvious talent and is arguably the best KPP in the draft pool so would be happy with a very good tall like him to hopefully one day combine with Hartlett and Setanta up forward.

Tested again before draft???
He is still in a wheelchair isnt he, and cant start running till at earliest next year - what tests are they gonna do?

the wheelchair is pretty standard for that sort of injury....i don't think Brownie would have been much better off after his broken legs was pinned.

Most reports i have heard have said he is expected to make a full recovery.

Personally I'd be disappointed if we took him at 4. Too much of a risk that high in the draft IMO. If he somehow fell to 20, then sure take him, but not at 4.

I'd much rather take Hurn, Ryder, Kennedy or Ellis at 4. Hoping for Hurn.

If he is rated the best avaliable player left at 4, I have no problems in taking him if his medical report is ok.

Initially I would have had Hurn as my top choice for no 4 but I don't know enough about the draftees and thus all I want is the best avaliable talent.

Fudge him! He's not worth pick bloody 4! :thumbsd:

If we even think about overlooking Hurn for Dowler I'LL NEVER POST HERE AGAIN!!!!11

We can not afford to use Pick 4 for a player who may not play senior football next year. We already have enough project players (O'Hailpin, Hartlett, Raso), we must pick a player who will be playing senior football next year. It would be great to be able to pick Dowler and then give him a couple of years, but where we are at now we need to pick players who will play senior footy sooner rather than later (ala Lance Franklin, Jarryd Roughead, Ryan Griffin).

Going on a best player available basis, Dowler is not the fourth best player in this draft. Simple.

That's not to say he won't be a hell of a player.

Dowler is IMO the best KPP player in the draft. Add that to the fact that he is a local, and he is looking like a good prospect. He will make a full recovery and be ready to play AFL in 2007. He really needed a summer in the gym anyway. I don't think he will be able to play down back, when I saw him there at TAC cup level he looked a bit lost. CHF/HFF is where he should be played. He is one of those players that just keep presenting. Has good fitness, mobility, speed, great hands, good skills (by hand and foot) and is a top bloke. Although often lacks intensity and 2nd and 3rd efforts and usually tries to mark from behind as apposed to punching it (why he will need a bit of work to play in defense). I'd say he is worth pick 4 and will be a better player than any other local players, and IMO Hurn, Clark, Ryder. Swallow maybe will become a better player, but isn't local and doesn't play KP. So if I was Carlton I would be tossing up between Swallow and Dowler, chances are you will go for Dowler, but either way you guys wont be dissapointed.

Swallow is going to be very good, for sure.

Yep agree. Plenty of comparisons of Murphy and Cousins/Crawford but have also heard Swallow compared to Cousins a few times also.

Hurn, Swallow, Ryder, Dowler, Kennedy, Ellis. All good players so either one of these would be great along with Murphy.
