Snuka,

It's probably more a case of our supporters not wanting us to go down the road of recruiting older and injury prone players because it's an all too famililar path. Perhaps they have been overly critical of Beau and not acknowledged that he was a premiership player in an outstanding team but I can certainly understand the strong sentiments because we can and need to do much better.

Understand completely sainter...Just a little riled by these claims that a certain player is a dud or hack just because your club doesn't want to trade for them. I wouldn't want my club to pick him up in the same position. Has value at the Lions as a very solid backup ruckman but as you guys have said, not someone the saints would be looking for after picking up Clarke & Gardiner.

I stand to be corrected, but the reason Aaron Keating probably only played 5 games could be to do with the nearly fatal bashing he got........ Believe it left him partly impaired. Sketchy on the facts, but it was something like that.......(I think)..

Played heaps of SANFL though, so I would be surprised.

StKilda will probably make beau mcdonald an offer. 3rd round pick to brisbane perhaps? We still need secuity if gardiner doesn't come up - why do you think we picked up m clarke?

Mcdonald for our 3rd round pick is purely for insurance next season.
Turns 29 next season, so still a few seasons left in him yet.

It's clear lyon wants a ready made backup tap ruckman.

I would hardly say that a 29 year old ruckman who has played 25 games in the last 5 years is insurance. Rix is insurance, McDonald would be a risk.

If we go after a ruckman we should go after a good one. The only decent ruckmen available now are Jolly and Hudson. If we can't get one of those two we should just draft a couple of kids and let them develop.

We have Kosi, Brooks, Blake and Rix who can all pinch-hit in the ruck or play as backup. We don't need any more backup ruckmen.

Perhaps I should clarify my viewpoint and the use of the term "hack". He is a hack now that he has got little to give and has heavy injury clouds hanging over him. I was not referring to his decoration with team achievements.

I would prefer Gardiner as our insurance whilst we go out and get ourselves some young upcoming players. I know who has more potential left. I wonder who would be paid more of the two?

Now I probably should just lay off as it's inconsequential...but i'm not sure you guys seem to remember him playing back then (if you ever even watched him). Sure, a little raw and clumsy (as most 200cm+ young guys are) but was definitely no dud or hack. Was a very good, young tap ruckman, premierships or not, who had all the 'potential' in the world before getting caned by injury. I agree that Hudson, Wood or Meeson or any of those suggested are definitely worth more at the trade table and are probably better investment but...no hack!

Back then is back then, now is now. He was a great player, but now he's no good. He's been hit too hard with injuries and won't fix our problems in the ruck. It would be a stupid investment.

Don't forget Barry Brooks. You gave up a 1st round pick for him. ;)

Brooks wasn't old. He was a second year player when we picked him up. And he was a first round pick himself, so it wasn't such a stupid trade at the time. How were we to know he was going to fall in a hole form-wise.

That's not true. He is still a decent player but is a bit unlucky with the Lions favouring youth.

Beau McDonald.................................... surely not.
Constantly recruiting ruckman that are hacks from other clubs is getting the Stk.f.c nowhere. The only options that should be looked at are either Hudson or Jolly.
At the moment the saints have Gardiner, who could be good if he ever gets on the park.
Kosi to me is more a fwd than a ruckman, Blake is a utility that has great running capabilities, but absolutely zero football ability. Rix gives 100% but is a battler and lucky to be on an AFL list to be honest.
That leaves us with Brooks........................How the hell is that guy still on the list. He should have been sacked immediately after his debacle of a performance against the Power in Tassie about 3 yrs ago. Picks 6 and 31 were given up to get that dud in what will go down as one of the bigger trading blunders ever seen
