i would only do the trade i mentioned if beau wanted to leave. if he was gone then i would use the draft pick we got for him on a FF. I would not actively hunt adelaide and offer beau.

We must bite the bullet and get someone like fevola. He would be awesome on the big subiaco oval with our midfield spoon feeding him. Think of all the goals our makeshift FF in Lynch would have got if he could hold onto a mark or 2.

Actually, im sure the crows would be interested in a FF aswell. Quinten Lynch goes alright ;)

Would a Fevola go to Perth?

His life seems to be very entrenched in Victoria.

He certainly could be the missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle for a flag. I don't really rate Quinten Lynch, so I wouldn't want him sent in our direction though.

Fevola would cost 2 first rounders IMO so a trade of Waters could be a possibility if Fevola were to go to the Eagles.

I'd be prepared to give a first rounder for Waters if he were fully recovered from OP.

macca23 would you trade our first round pick on Waters if you knew that we could get someone like Shannon Hurn or Travis Varcoe with either our pick or by trading up in the draft??????

BTW, if I was going after Waters and prepared to trade 1st round pick, then I would push for Butler as well and add something else to balance the ledger and that something else wouldn't be a draft pick :D :D

From the sounds of it Shannon Hurn will be well and truly gone before our first pick which if we finish say 8th, is likely to be pick 10 or 11 after pririty picks.

I think I would give pick 11 for a partly proven young player that is going to be a good player at worst and something better than that at best. Someone who would give another new tough dimension to our mid-field.

If we went down your path and assumed that Waters and Butler are linked together by inseparable umbilical cords, then what would you be giving along with the 1st round draft pick for the pair?

And don't say Van Berlo!! :eek:

If you know for a fact, please provide details of such an instance :)

I know for a fact it happens in other professional leagues, so why wouldn't it in football?

Ask yourself one question:
why would a player refuse to sign a new contract, oestensibly to go back home, if he didn't know if the other (destination) club wanted him?

Would we rather trade Reilly or the first round pick?

What about:

Reilly and WCE First Round to Carlton; Fev to WCE and Waters to us?

THEN our first round pick and Maric to, say, Hawthorn for their pick?

See if we can get Hurn and Waters.

I like this from our point of view, couold maybe see Carlton doing it if they cant fit Fevola in the cap or something but cant see West Coast giving up Waters and their first pick. Its close to do-able though. Maybe if we could all swap 2nd and 3rd picks aropund as they do these days, it could be done.

I'm not sure if Hurn is as good as his reputation is on this forum. He looks a good prospect for sure but I'm not convinced he's going to be a superstar. I think he was extremely lucky to get his spot in last years GF and did OK in the game. He hasn t really been prominent this season at all, so they jury is out on him ATM. Now his cricket commitments are over maybe he will make his presence felt a bit more and maybe confirm his standing, maybe not.

Also, I'm not sure Hawthorn will have a high pick anyway. There will definately be teams finishing below them this year. Maybe Collingwood, Essendon or Carlton.

I also cannot see fev leaving Victoria. He seems to like the media attention too much. However, he is still close mates with woosha. I think if he committed to leave the blues then we would be reasonably high on his desired club list (aslong as we pay him his required $$$).

Waters should be cleared of OP after this surgery. He could have kept playing with it but the club chose to bite the bullet and clear it up for good. Pretty brave considering it takes 15 weeks to recover from it.

I reckon it would happen without a doubt. The chances of getting away with it are high. But if someone says 'they know for a fact', as opposed to anecdotal evidence, then asking for some sort of verification is fair enough in my book.

Just want to make it clear also, that I am not necessarily doubting his word, just want more details.

This question wasnt directed at me, but I'll answer it anyway.

If it were pick 10 or so (which is probable), then without a doubt I'd do it. By all reports Travis Varcoe and Shannon Hurn will go earlier in the draft anyway.

I seriously doubt he'd come home anyway and Port will join the bidding for him which will push his asking price up too.

Matthew Smith --> Carlton
WCE 1st round pick --> Carlton
Brendan Fevulva --> Adelaide
Beau Waters --> Adelaide
Ian Perrie --> WCE

Thats fair isnt it? An experienced, established CHF for an unproven, injury plagued youngster and a draft pick to sweeten it. :p

Sounds like a win/win to me, hehe, we win twice that is. :D

If we did we'd wait until the deadline was too close to do anything, then watch them all go to Carlton in the PSD for nothin. hehehe :D

Stranger things have happened. :D

I'd be happy with the just straight swap of Perrie for Waters+1st round :D

Matthew Smith is an urban legend. He doesn't actually exist in real life.

Yep, he's just a tax entity created to draw a salary that conveniently is paid to Neil Craig's bank account.

At least a ham sandwich can give you a little bit of satisfaction, Mathew Smith (the player) is like a no good lotto ticket, 5 seconds after it no good, meh, it no good…….NEXT .
