The big no is 805 however lets break it down. The biggest score against Adelaide so far this year - 140 against the Bullies (I put that down to Grant's 300th factor- was going to happen so say the footy gods) then we have 65 (Coasters), 75 (Wobbles), 56 (PAPs), 79 (Swannies), 64 (Kangas), 78 (Dees), 72 (Lions), 57 (Sainters), 57 (those flooding Blues) and now 63 (the deplorable Bombers). The highest score after the 140 is 79 - that is an amazing statistic and at this point of the year I say the gold medal goes to our backline, the silver to our midfield with the bronze at this stage to our forward line (tries hard and occasionally clicks but too often lets its self down with poor finishing). I beautiful set of numbers and lets hope it continues as at this point 7-4 is beyond my pre-season expectation at the half way mark.

Atleast sheedy doesnt flood, even when the game is clearly lost. Many other coaches would have put the flood on to save face. Just like carlton did last wk. He might of put a mini flood on when we broke it open, but generally he let it go which was good to watch.

I must say that I hadnt been able to get to many games in recent years but have been a regular this year and it has been frustrating watching some of the teams come here and play defensively against us and we also were not able to kick many goals ourselves. The two teams that played 'conventional free-flowing' footy against us we creamed - Power and Bombers - and good on them for at least not playing negatively.

It worries me now that other teams coming here will try the negative stuff in order to nullify us - and I actually prefer watching our away games because the opposition play differently - i guess its the 'hunter and hunted' thing which is to some degree understandable - but bloody hard to take when teams come here!

I guess thats not what the thread is about - and I also agree with you that our backline has been great - not getting too many accolades - but really doing an invaluable job, week in, week out. That % advantage we are getting by not having big losses with a couple of big wins is worth an extra win to us.

And thats a credit to him. He is only of only a small handful of coaches who believe that they are responsible for putting up a spectacle rather than ugly football. They got smashed but they would learn more from a trashing than an ugly loss.

We are only a key foward away from being a top side

Defence has been fantastic this year. Early on you worked back in numbers, got 2-3 players at every contest inside your opponents attacking 50, then using Johncock, Mattner, Torney and Bassett to run it out...now youve gone a bit more attacking but still holding your opponenets to very small scores.

Big chance for the Crows to go 9-4 before the break. You almost usually win at Skilled Stadium and everyone is waiting for the Tigers to fall over. Big chance for 2 more away wins. If you are 9-4 at the break then its almost guaranteed a top 4 chance.

Our backline has been great but I think a lot of credit also has to go to our midfield. A good midfield covers a multitude of things and always makes defence look good. Our midfield this year has been equally good as our backline. Their ability to at least break even with the opposition means that the opposition doesn't get it in a hell of a lot and when they do, our midfielders make sure that the pressure is applied.

Our defence has been sensational but I think some of the credit for their form should also go to the midfield.

Whoa, whoa. We may have won two of the last three at Kardinia, but then we've won two of the last three Showdowns. ;) Our overall record there is 3-8.

A couple of weeks back I saw these as two of our most droppable games. I still think that. But it is noteable that Richmond hasn't beaten any side that's currently in the top eight.

which in the scheme of things is not really that much.

Actually for once you're right. :p

One Key forward - Watts ( fingers crossed),
One crumber - Schuback ( he has the talent, desire is questionable),
Two midfielders - Throw Knights into the mix, and with the big 4 not retiring for 2-3 years, who knows, could be happy days.

Yep, I agree... The best thing to happen to our backline has been Smart going, creative run/link and confident new blood. Itll only improve when Johncock comes back; he must be toey :D

A young bloke by the name of Rutten has helped a bit I would have thought.
Given the hounddog a new lease of life as well.
