The thought for this thread initially occurred to me when Stewart Loewe was heading into the week leading up to his 300th game and they showed some footage of when he first started, running around in the highly fancied #52 (I think) jumper.

To get this thread rolling, nominate some players from you team who are reasonable well known (we'll take 50 games as a minimum here) and let us try and remember what number they were initially given.

Here is some to start with:

Nick Daffy (Currently 10)
Mark Chaffey (6)
David Bourke (30)

Try and answer these and/or provide some more from your own team!

Libba went from no. 60 to the much more desirable 39
Adam Contessa went from 21 to 19
Scott West started with 14 then took Hawkin's no. 7
Chris Grant went from No. 29 to EJ's no. 3
Steve Kolyniuk also had two changes of numbers, but I cant remember what they were. :)

Justin Peckett - #29 to #8 then ridiculously #1
Nathan Burke - #29 to #3
Andrew Thompson # 29 to #4
Austinn Jones #29 to #5

That brings an end to the amazing #29 transformation, hope Stevie Baker gets a better number next year.

The rest that I recall :

Jason Cripps #36 to # 18
Caydn Beetham #30 to #21
Stewart Loewe #50 to #23
Barry Hall #42 to #25
Jason Blake #39 to #27
Tim Elliot #38 to #31

Dermott Brereton - 47 to 23
Chris Mew - 46 to 2
Nathan Thompson - 49 to 16 (to 23)
Glen Nugent - 55 to 21 (to St Kilda)
Darrin Pritchard - 41 to 18

Biggest tumblers on the current list:
Bill Nicholls - 38 to 1
Tim Hazell - 40 to 14

Re: Re: Before they were famous

Matthew Primus - 2 to 1
Gavin Wanganeen - 1 to 4
Stuart Dew - 37 to 17
Nathan Steinberner - 34 to 11
Matt Bishop - 4 to 19
Nathan Eagleton - 25 to 11 to Bulldogs
Peter Burgoyne - 26 to 7

okies ppl here are some

Paul Licuria 32 - 18
Leon Davis 40 - 1
Mark Richardson 16 - 3
Dimian Adkins 41 - 2
Craig Jacotine 38 - 13
Rupert Betheras 49 -10

Andrew Ukovic 27 - 13
Heath Scotland 44 - 29

Thats all I can think of right at this moment

James Hird - 49 to 5
Mark Mercuri - 45 (?) to 2
Joe Misiti - 52 to 24
Mark Johnson - 45 to 28 to 1
Jason Johnson - 42 to 14
Michael Long - 4 to 13
Corey McGrath - 45 to 28
Steve Alessio - 44 (?) to 27
Garry Moorcroft - 46 or was it 45 (?) to 29
Rob Forster-Knight - 41 to 15

and im pretty sure damien hardwick wore another number

ummmmmm..

Ben Allan - 37 to 15 (to Freo)

Andy Collins - 4 to 5 (?)

And now, for the BEST player ever to wear the number 23 Hawks guernsey:
The nominations are:
Don Scott
Dermott Brereton
Simon Crawshay

And the winner is..........................

SIMON CRAWSHAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - YOU BLOODY LEGEND!!

Oh my, doesn't that bring back memories....Gosh he was such a good player; he really upheld the tradition of the past players who have donned the number 23 .... He was almost as good as his coach, Peter Knights....;)

Nick Holland went from number 52 or 51 to number 2
Jonathan Hay went from 26 to number 3
Rayden Tallis went from number 29 to number 4
Daniel Harford went from 15 to 5
Brett Johnson went from 28 to 8
Daniel Chick went from 27 to 17

Thats about all I can remember.
One to help me with is what number was Ben Dixon before 19?

I think that Daffy was either 47 or 48.

I don't have a clue about Chaffey or Bourke (35 maybe?) though. Gone blank??

Mark Harvey 38 to 1, I hope Johnson won't mind relinquishing the guernsey for this week against the Roos, seeing as Harvs appears to be making a comeback, Hey CHOPPY:D

Ryan Turnbull (premiership player in 1994 before anyone starts taking the p***) went from no. 50 to, um, no. 50. Apparently he likes the number and didn't want to change.

Another big mover in the number stakes was Royce Vardy. After having a pretty good season last year, Royce was given the opportunity to upgrade his number from the cumbersome #42.

After some consideration he chose......

The recently vacated #41 guernsey of Scott Turner!!!!

And while on the topic of vacating guernseys, Paul Broderick has signalled that this will be his last season, meaning that the most famous number at Richmond will become available.

Who do you think will get to fill it?

Dean Rioli perhaps?:D
