Being dropped during a Brownlow year.

I was listening to the footyology podcast and they brought up Graeme Teasdales start of a year where he kicked a big bag of goals in the 1st 3 rounds. My memory of that year is that he then played terribly for a few rounds, got dropped and then came back in the ruck and won the Brownlow. So my question is, is this correct or is my mind playing tricks on me,
and were there any other players who won a Brownlow in a year where they got dropped (not injured)

Teasdale won the Brownlow in 1977, playing 21 of 22 (H&A) games. He missed rd. 13 for some reason, but looking at his rd. 12 stats (16 DI, 5 MK, 38 HO) it's totally unlikely he was dropped!

He did start the season with 8 & 9 goals, then the goals dried up and it seems he started playing in the ruck in rd. 8.

I can't think of any Brownlow winners ATM who did get dropped during the year they won it, but it most likely has happened a few times.

Teasdale only missed playing in rd. 13 because he was playing for Victoria against WA in Perth (or at least in the squad). He's pictured in a team photo shown in the rd. 13 Football Record.

This is from the Rd. 14 Record:

Thanks.. the 11 goals in the following 4 games is probably what i remember and there might have been a threat to be dropped.

He actually managed just the 11 goals in the following 5 games (the Record gets that wrong) after the brilliant first two rounds, so he did fall in a real hole up forward!

The rd. 6 game saw him have a modest 7 disposals, kick 1.2 but concede 5 free kicks (0 frees for), so if he was ever on shaky ground selection-wise that may have been the time!

Stan Judkins (Richmond) joint winner of Brownlow in 1930 was dropped from the senior team near the end of August that year:

Yes, dropped for the final four H&A matches and played five Reserves games before returning to the seniors for the SF. He's the only Brownlow winner to be dropped during a medal season. He was later dropped for a match during the 1934 season before playing in his second premiership win. He was also the smallest and lightest winner, a wingman who measured 166cm/61kg.

This was the last year of the one-vote-per-match system, Judkins winning with four BOG's from twelve matches. He was deemed the outright winner at the time, having played fewer matches than Collier and Hopkins, who were later awarded retrospective medals.
