Business & Finance Being scammed

Not soo much a scam, but (many years ago) me and a mate were in maccas after a big night out and while leaving my mate (being very drunk) grabbed this plastic aus kick thing that contained competition entry forms.

The next morning he thought it would be funny to call people telling them they had won and to come to McDonald's at midday to receive their prize (grand final tickets and meet Nathan Buckley). Although harsh, it was funny sitting in the maccas watching person after person come in to claim their prize.
To make that a proper scam you should have been around robbing their houses while they were in claiming their prize.

Anyone involved in multi level marketing, network marketing etc. Got a few people I know convinced they will be rich and retired by 30 off it. None will ever reveal what they make, though one put up a photo of his paycheck for a months work to prove "it wasn't a scam" He got paid $60. These people don't seem to realise they are not employees, but customers.

I have 2 friends going on and on about this shit at the moment. I tried it for a month jut to shut one of them up. It's aMASSIVE crock of shit. Not to mention their whole personality has changeD. It's honestly like they've been brainwashed. So so sad.

I got a taste of the multi-level marketing monster recently when a guy I knew set me up with a meeting with one of the higher level guys. Told me that they were looking for an open-minded person looking to make some money, had a really good business project they were looking to expand etc.

Curiosity (and naivety) got the best of me so I had a meeting with this guy. Not once did he elaborate on the actual business plan (i.e. how does the 'business' make money). All he talked about was dreams and goals and what you would do if you had all the money you needed. I actually borrowed a couple of cds with talks from the people who have made it big in the industry (i.e. the people who are at the top and sucking all of the money out of the lower-levels) to hear their brainwashing at work. Exactly the same thing: they never, ever, talked about how the business works they just spouted crap about how good their lifestyle is, and how anybody can do it if they apply themselves.

I'm in the second year of a commerce degree now and have to feel sorry for the people who get sucked into these get-rich quick pyramid schemes. Just completely unethical and further proof that money rules in this society!

I've got a friend who 'distributes' this crap and from his facebook it looks like he has been to various events around the world not sure who pays for flights to get there.

Alarm bells should ring when you look to buy a product and no one anywhere on the net will give you a price

6PR talkback had this nimrod ring in during the week telling his story about how he recently got scammed by the 'white van- stereo' con artists.

Says he gets talking, they offer him a $3000+ BOSE stereo system for 1400.

Takes it home, sets it up and it catches fire when turned on..haha.

Turns out all the packaging looks legit but when opened it's all fake goods. Rubbish basically.

Paul Murray then spends most of the morning listening to other peanuts who have also been takin for a ride by these scammers. And others who saw through the lies and walked away.

The white van scam has been flat out running in Perth for years, Can't believe people keep falling for it...

in the last month i have gotten

1. 3 emails from some place called "Whos who of industry" wanting to publish me in their "Whos who annual yearbook"

2. 2 texts from the "London Readers Sweepstakes" telling me i have won 5 million pounds

3. 1 email from the "American C.E.A" claiming to need access to my bank accounts due to a "Negerian Electronic Mail Fraudelant Scam" (typed exactly as they typed it)

Anyway, nothing to do with scams just wanted to gloat.

Once every 6 months or so I get a call asking for a Mr Bailey. I always forget and say 'you've got the wrong number' bad boom they're off with 'oh well we just have the wrong name but this is the right number you've been awarded with bla bla in free gift credits'

Seems like they just say Mr Bailey every time to get the people talking and get past the initial hang up they usually deal with

Either that or Mr Bailey made a big mistake in writing the wrong number down

There's a company 'Speed Telecom' that is out scamming people, fraudulently setting up broadband plans without people's permission.

Mum got home from work one night to find a Post Office card saying that they left a wi-fi modem next to her air conditioner (an issue in itself). So she grabs it, and there's a letter from 'Speed Telecom' thanking her for signing up for one of their broadband plans.

Only thing is Mum never signed up with them, and had never even heard of them. The letter from them was very suspicious as well - addressing her as Mrs (which she hasn't used in about 20 years since my parents split) and it had her home phone number on there (which she discloses to nobody and is a private number). Only thing she can think of is she got a call from a telemarketer a couple of weeks earlier, and she hung up on them.

So she calls them - on hold for 35 minutes, transferred and hung up. So she sends an...assertive letter. She gets a phone call the next day saying they're investigating it. Then, 'oh dear, we've stuffed up, can you send the modem back'. Mum said if they want the modem back they have to supply a reply paid envelope - you would think when they've been caught out on their scam the least they could do is provide the return envelope without the customer asking.

Not sure what 'Speed Telecom' are doing to 'acquire' their customers but it seems their methods are quiet suspicious.

Anyone read what happened to Casey Donovan? Apparently it's called "catfishing".

She meets this guy online. Has an online and telephone relationship with this guy for 6 years. But every time he agrees to meet he makes an excuse. Some times a chick would show up (a really butch dyke) and go "oh yeah, I'm his friend, he could come so asked me to come. He said that even though I'm a chick you should f*** me". So Casey Donovan has lesbian sex with this bull-dyke because she told her the boyfriend she has never met says she should?????

wtf?

And yes, BF never ever existed. It was the bull-dyke playing her the whole time.
