Body had more then likely fallen into ocean and swept away...

It's his phone last pinging at the lighthouse that's a bit suspicious imo. Fair enough he went for a long walk to the lighthouse which is obviously really high up but then he'd have to climb the rail and fall down the cliff into the sea. We can all do some silly things when we've been drinking but what would he do that for?

Correct me if im wrong but phone pinging near the lighthouse doesn’t mean actually there.. phones pick up towers from kms away.. it’s most likely misadventure

You're probably right but searchers did spend a lot of time at the lighthouse. It seems so strange they can't find his phone, if he has whatsapp he probably has the 'find my phone' feature or couldn't they access the google maps he was looking at before he disappeared?

Phone in pocket or taking photos and falls? Phone goes with him?

Another one at Marysville, Sharma has been missing for over 72 hours. After an argument at the pub, he left to walk the 50m back to where they were staying. And vanished.

The two missing men were out socialising, as opposed to alone/depressed/suicidial. Very strange vanishing acts

Does anybody know if a smart phone can ping under water? Because the last ping on his phone was at 1.42pm, nearly 12 hours after he left the Cheeky Monkey. Then presumably the battery died.

I don't believe so but also,

"IP67 means the unit can be dropped into a body of water up to a meter deep for half an hour, while IP68 guarantees protection in water up to 1.5m deep for the same period of time. Both are resistant to dust. "

So it probably wasn't in the water up until at least 1.00pm about eleven hours later. Hmmmmmm

Why would he head to the lighthouse, when the hostel was all the way over the other direction in Childe St? I don't think he took his phone there. Maybe someone waylaid him and robbed it off him. I don't know what the route is like now, but when I visited my uncle Alf over there at his Belongil river house 25 years ago it was mainly bush and park near the site of the old abattoirs. Plenty of dark spots and lots of Parks that my uncle complained about being full of druggies and petty criminals from Sydney sleeping rough. Don't know what it's like now though. And of course, my uncle, the aged hippy and former surfing star can't talk about what young kids get up to without sounding like a hypocrite about his lifestyle in the 60's ;)

It's still quite feral in places. Every time someone I know goes to Byron Bay they get bitten by a snake or some poisonous sea creature and end up in hospital.

Very popular with tourists still. My uncle rents his house out permanently now and lives in a transportable of the block when he's in Australia. He lives in Cambodia during winter and only comes back in Summer now. Apparently the house pays for his lavish lifestyle. LOL

Interesting twitter conversation proposing another lead regarding a burnt out car found after Theo went missing.

Can someone please search the swamp at flathead lane just off Tamarind dave in Ballina & find out what that horrible smells is that's been there for 4 weeks i hope it's not Theo Hayez but it may well be.

What on earth is wrong with people. A swamp smells.

They could just go and have a look themselves.

Forensic psychologist Tim Watson Munro shared his thoughts on the trio’s mysterious disappearances today.

He says there’s a chance the three men disappeared in circumstances that are not malicious, but authorities should not discount orchestrated foul play.

“You cannot discount the fact that you have three young men of very similar profiles who have gone missing or are dead from two coastal towns which in the scheme of Australia’s geography are quite close."
