Agree with ant with his sentiments to a degree.

I still think having 3 ruckman, however mobile they are, is going to impact on your ability to rotate through the midfield.

It's one of the most important aspects of today's game; being able to maintain intensity in contested situations as well as spreading through multiple groups in the midfield.

We probably gain a couple more marking targets that will be able to bring the ball to ground/mark the ball themselves and give better structure to our set ups. What we concede is that vital midfield rotation that enables you to run out the 4 quarters.

If we are expanding our thinking, if Mumford smashes us around the stoppages like last year, you can move Ryder on to the ball and have him come over the top of the ruck contest around the ground, nullifying Mumford's output.

...but yea, more than likely trying to expose Swans lack of height down back, whilst not losing anything with forward pressure with Ryder a great chase and tackler.

Mabe they intend to play Ryder as a defender in this game and nullify Goodes

Possibly, but I doubt it.

I reckon more likely the aim is to win the contested ball in the second half.

Don't think it was that obvious, more condescending.

The Swans do have a small defence though, Grundy and Richards not exactly tall. Probably trying to exploit that area. If a midfielder goes down early though it could prove tricky especially if Bellchambers is playing crap. Then again Sydney has selected Pike which should help us.

I love the idea of these three on the ground at once.

Sydney lack height on the defensive half. You can rotate these three and destroy Mumford and have all three down forward to exploit the lack of height.

Of course you have to back yourself to win the contested ball.

I'll back us.

I will bet my left aggot that all 3 will not be on the ground at the same time,if they all play Belly will be the sub to replace Hille, put my right aggot on that. Unless we suffer an injury where a player is deemed unable to play out the match, in which case I want my aggots back, We will smack the Swans by 30 points plus....
I also said we would beat the dogs by 4 goals plus, now i am being conservative...:):):):):)

No tsure Hille, who on a limited pre season can play out a whole game.

Bellchambers as the sub sounds like the way to go.

Gives both Hille half a game to continually work on his fitness from the aforementioned limited pre season whilst Bellchambers is rewarded for his very good pre season.

Sounds likely that we will play all three with Ryder to play forward.

Still think Myers will go with Goodes in the forward half whilst the Lovett-Murray match up on the ball sounds likely.

Still think Jack, Kennedy and the Sydney back flankers are my biggest worry.

Am hoping that our on ball depth will cover the Sydney midfield.

the goodes matchup was a concern - perhaps just giving themselves options if they need ryder to go there.

or:

hille likely to have pulled up sore in his first full match for a long time - wouldn't surprise if he was late withdrawal.

unless its one of the above reasons then i i'd say its a silly decision as we will be a midfielder less in rotations.

It's a very high risk-high reward selection strategy. Sydney are going in without Pyke or Seaby, so we'll be trying to work over Mumford, whilst hoping Hille, Ryder and Hurley have too much height and strength for Sydney's shortish tall defenders.

I guess in some ways we have to reward Belly's good form. Just hope we don't sacrifice too much in terms of run.

They want to keep Bellchambers' morale high, and lets be honest its only a matter of time before hille hits the sidelines for a few weeks. And since the 2 ruckman is working amazingly why not get some game time into big belly. :D

Will be sub, maybe.

Looking forward to TBell going at it. was very impressive in NC and showed lots of improvement on last year. Agree with the comment re: Hille's life expectancy. While Hilley continues to go hard a good idea to keep TBell's game time up as much as possible.

Would prefer Fletch on O'Keefe.
Ryder to Goodes robs us of a good forward.
Myers to Goodes perhaps? possibly Hardingham spoiling as well. We seem to go more St Kilda backline these days where we dont pick a player up in particular but peel off and choke the space.

Could well go Hille ruck, Ryder fwd, Belly bench and rotate. At any given point, we would have two rucks on the ground and we would reduce their fatigue without needing a sub.

Hille/Ryder/Bell vs Mumford/Pike
i like them odds.

Yeah I thought Ant's post about playing all three was quite obvious, not exactly innovating.

Ah well.

Often the obvious is best but gets ignored because it is obvious :)

Anyway Hille is out so the obvious does not matter :D
