You'd imagine the way the AFL are pushing for an AFL club to pick him up, that that may very well be the case. Could definitely see them allowing it, but whether a club goes for him is a different story.

Can you imagine the outrage of Essendon supporters if Cousins is afforded the same special consideration that Ramanauskas was

"How dare the AFL equate a cancer sufferer with a drug addict!?!?!"

which I would probably mostly agree with, but if it does happen, I will be way too caught up enjoying how mad it makes the Bummers :D

That's it then. One of the best players to play the game may not play again. Pretty dissapointing to be honest.

This is absolutely hilarious. Richmond tried to cheat the system, by blackmailing the AFL, and it backfired big time. Now they have 2 choices:

1. Pick Gourdis with their #6 PSD pick as they promised, and deal with the outrage from the desperate Richmond supporters. Another dump truck on it's way?

Or..

2. Use pick 6 on Cousins, thereby admitting that they have lied about their intentions, and admitting they were trying to cheat the system.

The Richmond Football Club is just a complete disaster. :)

Maybe it should. The guy hasn't killed anyone, he had a problem, an addiction. Yet it seems when a guy's down there is no getting up. And what do we know of Chris Johnson as a footballer or a person. The guy won't get my heart racing next year.

Yeah thats all well & good but thats not what happened today.

EVERY CLUB in the AFL had the chance to draft him and didnt. Perhaps they have good information as to why not to pick him. Perhaps they dont want more 30 year olds.

Carlton has assessed Johnson as more likely to play say 50 games for CFC than Cousins. Or Judd didnt like him...THATS NOT THE POINT.

All thats happened to day is that the AFL told Richmond to bugger off.

Richmond could have picked him up many times and didnt. No one should be having a go at any Club about this. They ALL SAID NO.

That's the point they all said NO. What kind of message is it setting when a guy hits rock bottom and does everything he can to reform and change and is refused at every door?

All I've learnt from this is that AFL and everything in it is a ruthless organisation desperate to keep money rolling in.

And they said no based on his age and the risk of him causing issues down the track. To what extent each Club feels either risk I dont know, but how can you possibly want your Club (or any Club) to risk that?

I want my Club to make professional list decisions. The day sympathy and social obligation override my Club's obligation to win a Premiership is the day the games gone to hell.

All fans should be the same of their club.

There are many ways Cousins can be treated and looked after. Bending the rules for a PSD pick isnt one of them.

But how much would the kids love it for cousins to be at club as a mentor. He has pass all the test but not picked up. He can play were Chris Johnson plays and will do a better job at it. Plus when he retires thats ehrn our kids are 22-25:D:D:D It more of a plus that a player just getting a game a melbourne.

Bearing in mind that some clubs went through exhaustive investigations before deciding to pass on Cousins, it tends to point to there still being some 'baggage' associated with Cousins. He would have been a good fit for both Collingwood & St Kilda, but it would seem that the information provided to these clubs about Cousins scared them off. Until we know the full story (which we probably never will), I think it is safe to say that Cousins was too big a risk for an AFL club.

That's a terrific and well thought argument that has changed my mind.

How is Mainwaring going?

Lets get Laurence Angwin back at the club because he's an elite talent who wasn't given a second, third or fourth chance.

Cousins has had more than enough chances to convince the clubs he's worth the risk.

Cousins must be worth the risk if Collingwood, St Kilda and Brisbane have said no to drafting Ben after considering it... Melbourne, Port and Essendon are even prepared to take Rockliff, Carr and Skipworth ahead of Cousins in the PSD.

The reality is if this wasn't Ben Cousins, no club would even give him the time of day.

It's all about Ben the attention seeker who needs to move onto the next phase of his life.

Thank God we sacked Pagan who would have jumped at the chance to draft this Cousins tomorrow.

Cousins is no mentor. :thumbsd:

The message is Warsaw, if you want to play football at the top level and maybe set yourself up for life financially don't mess around with drugs.

BTW I don't recall any other players becoming druggiest whilst Laurie Angwin and Stormin Norman were there, so it wouldn't really be an issue if Cuz was drafted by the blues (which he won't be, as we're taking CJ) ???

I honeslty reckon this 'bad behaviour' fear or influence on the younger players by Cousins is just an unfounded myth IMHO.

If only it was as simple as just Angwin & Norman. Unfortunately it wasn't. The club got it exactly right getting these players out of the place (as well as at least one other) before the problem was allowed to spread throughout the club (think of the West Coast Eagles for a moment).

He was a major player that created a culture that nearly tore a footy club apart. I won't name names for obvious reasons but theres been a few boys arrive at that club after Benny that made some ordinary choices because of said culture. No thank you.

Clubs rejecting him had alot with sponsor image. Image is apparently everything and Sponsors=$$$$$. Richmond don't have a major sponsor so there's nothing to lose. They'd still eventually find one to come on board.

Where Richmond went wrong is that they were "teasing" there supporters. Giving them great hope of getting a gun then, after all that excitement, being let down. Nothing is more annoying. Richmond would've been better off with a direct yes or no or said nothing until PSD Draft day. don't worry about "Polak provisos" their hopes were up. If you were ok with his background why would you take a player you've delisted from the rookie list already, ahead of Cousins anyway? He can be rookied, if he's still there, then put on the list while Polak is on the LTIL. And then they can still have Cousins. As usual, that club makes no sense.
