Why would Juddy say no. He's been part of his rehabilitation. Ratt's alluded to there being a romance with bringing Ben with Chris and quite frankly i support that.

And to those that think of him as ******** then come off it. Seriously the guy was regarded as one of the best Captains that West Coast had and he was a terrific captain. An on field leader better than Judd in that regard. His problem related to being in an environment that clearly did not do any good.

At Carlton he'll be a leader and I find it hard to believe that the fantastic group of kids we have with us would fall into a path of self destruction. I find it even harder that Cousins would even have the nerve to get back on the drugs.

I like you Warsaw are starting to warm to the idea of having Cuz on board maybe pick 69 in draft worth a risk if he stays off the juice which if he wants to play he has to do the bloke would be unbelieve in our side I can hear Fev licking his lips even louder

Was only a few weeks ago i was 100% against him playing for the blues, i am now ready to change my mind and do a complete turn around, lets face facts he is going to play for someone, there is every possibility he will have up to 4 good years in him ( 100 games ) he is doing all the right things and looks desperate to a part of the afl again, the ducks are all lining up for me i now say yes.

Yes I'm completely for Benny Cuz coming to the blues it would be a dream come true for me. He is my favourite non blue and I rate him so highly, he is an absolute gun the gut busting running he produces and the long penetrating kick omg what a gun.

I would love to see in the navy blue, although i know the head of carlton will act too uptight and serious and would not pick him and go with the youth policy **sigh**. Screw the youth policy for a minute and get the absolute superstar he will win a premiership next year if not then the year after.

People turn down talent too easily because of age, this guy will do way better than Jordan Russell on HFF and the starting mid of Judd Murphy Cousins also sounds sexual.

So my message to carlton: GET BENNY CUZ!!!!!

Ok.. if you say so... we should!!!

I'm all for us recruiting him if there is no one else available by our pick in the PSD.
Not that I think he should play for us, but strategically we could just plonk him in the 2s so that no other club higher than us could grab him. :D

I'd be guided by the club on this call but most of all, it all comes down to Juddy. If Cousins' activities lead in any way to Juddy wanting out, then I'd rather keep him happy than get greedy.

You'd think Juddy would be someone that anybody considering Ben would like to talk to but as a friend he may not be inclined to say much. It was always obvious that Ben was the natural leader of the WCE but also just as noticeable that he was a larrikin (part of the attraction?) and I am only talking about his onfield mannerisms.

He belongs at St.Kilda. Enough said.

I don't know HBF - I think a coach that he can be mates with (not normally advisable but something younger coaches tend to be more so than older ones, not that Lyon is that old) and the lesser media focus of Brisbane could be good for him.

I guess the main question that needs to be asked is whether the upside that his experience/talent will bring to our young team will outweigh the negative aspects.

I'm all for giving him a second chance. If our recruiters think he's good enough then Ben Cousins in our midfield will only increase our chances of playing finals.

Cousins/Judd/Stevens will be an awesome midfield while Gibbs/Murphy/Ziebell or whoever we pick learn their craft together as a unit.

Cousins doesnt listen to anyone.
He does whatever he likes.
He wont cooperate with police... let alone a footy club
He is a loose cannon.
He has a massive ego.. so much so that even at present he hangs out with aquaintances he shouldnt.

Massive risk!!.. only a desperate club would entertain the idea that they would put him on the straight and narrow.. when Benny does what Benny wants...

I hear all this talk about risks and I really see them being pretty minimal. Look at the stringent conditions the AFL have placed on him. There's is no room for him to hide, he simply can't fall back to those old days. Have Harvey be a mentor to the guy, there's no one better to make sure he'll toe the line.

On the field there is no question on how he'll perform. This is not recycling a player that never proved anything. This is a brownlow medallist, premiership player, all australian. You don't just lose your skill and the worst we could do is have him playing off the bench.

spot on :)
well said!!

To all you people advocating getting this waste of space... pm Pyro for a bit of background info about Cousins... I do believe that Pyro has mentioned somewhere that his dad taught Cousinsat school and that Cousinswas a w***er even back then and when he got into trouble, the school bailed him out. But thats just me remembering something vague from over 12 months ago.

He went to the west coasters with that sort of attitude and because of his upside potential, the club continuously bailed him out.

Exactly and well said :thumbsu:

Having the sanctions in plac he knows his on his last chance, there for i beleive he will give it his all for who ever picks him, id be really happy with him at 69, wow imagine how scarry our midfield would be with cousins in there.

1st his not 17 anymore

2nd he comes to a club with a new attitude or he will find himself on the AFL scrap heap very early.

Respect your opinion, but from where I sit, it is his demenour I worry about. The risk to team balance and the risk of introducing poor behaviours is NOT worth the risk. Cousins as a person is a spud of the highest order.
You wouldn't let a fox into a hen house, mainly because they have inherent behaviours to kill everything (Reminds me of Sublime)

He is on the AFL scrapheap....

.... he had plenty of opportunity not to be...

WTF are you talking about?????

Hes a 31 year old loser in life....
As a football club if we get him and he stuffs up we will never live it down,
if we get him and he does well for the time he is with us and goes on and improves his life, becomes a roll model for those that are following a destructive path in life and helps just one person ( or kid ) to straighten there life up then its worth the risk. There can be positives in this.

"Actually, it's not as glam as everyone thinks".

I probably have conceded that we won't go after him, which is a shame I believe. At the very least it would be our 'due diligence' to at least inquire about him but I'm pretty dissapointed that didn't happen.

This was in the Hearld Sun this morning
CARLTON: "We've said from very early on that even if he was reinstated we would be going down a different path and putting our resources into developing younger players." - football manager Steven Icke

I am all for developing our kids but there has to be a time where we, not necessarily halt the progress of the youth but do bring one or two older players despite the baggage. There has to be an equilibirium of the two that the club could see and work things out like that. I do like to liken this situation to Dew last year. They had such a young list last year and Al Clarkson decided to bring in Dew who at 28 was not in much physical shape and had a year out of the game. Look at Ben. He's in as good as shape as he's been throughout his playing days.

Like i said before though i do concede him being at Carlton. Nothing I've heard or read would make me feel that we could still look at him which is a bit dissapointing.

You cannot do due dilligence on Cousins.

The club knows this better than anyone except WC....

He is a no brainer not to take...

Everything that happens will have the spotlight.. innuendo will be all over place...
He will still continue to do and see who and what he wants...

Hes always been the same....

There is only one club interested.... for good reason... (its not his football)

This is a time when money will be scarce.....

Youre not going to take that kind of punt on a guy that comes with so much baggage.. and this much media attention...

We have a club to build into greatness!!!

Cousins jeapordises everything!!!
