Brisbane have now officially pulled out of the race for Cousins full stop.

Hopefully those that do want him will now realise that as good a player as he was/might still be, it is seen as far too big a risk by clubs.

Focus on someone else as Essendon will not take him and it appears that no one else will either.

Wait, did i miss something?

EDIT: Saw the story

Wouldn't be surprised if Essendon pick him up in the draft (Cousins). Hmm.

Cant wait to tune in tomorrow/today and find out who we get with pick 5.
Exciting stuff! :)

Ben Cousins = At least 4 years
Pick 79 = Good chance that he'll be here less then 4 years.

TAKE HIM KNIGHTER

Many would say that's an extremely bold statement. Do you remember how he went in his last season, injury wise?

This dead horse (as in the whole topic) has been stripped of its flesh and the carcass barely remains. Just hope Essendon take all their players in the National Draft this year to avoid any more speculation on the topic.

I'm glad they didn't pick him up.
But I heard a rumour that we are interested in getting him in the PSD. :o

Re: Ben Cousins's mates

I have a suspicion that when Collingwood spoke to Christine Nixon, they were not asking about Benny; they were more interested in certain people he was friendly with. His wax job, head shave didn't help. I also think that when he declined two invitations to fly to Brisbane to meet with their top guys didn't help his cause when he later flew to Melbourne to attend a funeral of a convicted drug dealer only highlighted an attitude issue.

Teams which are building from their young recruits should get mature players as well; sure!! But the mature players are there to help/influence younger players in a positive way to improving them on and off field. I don't see that forthcoming from Benny. Sure he could give then hints on how to run from a booze bus and leave the girlfriend to carry the can, where to get a good kip if they are too tired to walk any further after leaving Crown Casino, how to party all over the world from Surfers to LA. I think most teams would rather some other team pick up these positives from Benny.

Don't get me wrong! Benny was a player that I would have gone to any game here just to watch. I always wondered at his freakish footy ability.

BUT!! this time, I think Benny finally wore out the welcome mat in all the AFL clubs by his latest antics.

I don't think he would be a good influence at Essendon.

Does the word PASS mean anything to you in the National Draft? I think it means the team is NOT interrested.

agreed. his reported dissatisfaction with the afl's drug testing requirements didn't help his case either. if he wants to play that badly, drug testing won't be an issue because drugs won't be either.

the guy is a gun footballer full stop. nobody has to like him just like the way he plays football. Geez i played with plenty of tools who i had no time for but could definately play.

Lloyd, lucas, fletcher have tops 2 years of high class football. if we want to win a flag in these years we need midfield depth. cousins will give us that. With him and Prismall added to the midfield we could actually match it with the class acts going around.

Rock and roll waldo...you are on the money

But it ain't going to happen.

It is not about players or the list but about the sponsors and his recent idiocy turning up to a underworld funeral et al. I am pro cousins at EFC not just for his talent but also chucking risk to the wind and supporting the bloke who has conformed to all the stipulations asked of him.

He is one of those individuals you type casted from your playing days but it really shouldn't matter. Seemingly it does

I pretty much agree with waldo (especially his first comment).

I can't seem to shake this strange feeling that we are going to end up with him. I know the club has said no, no, no but it certainly wouldn't be the first time a club has said something and then done something else.

I may very well be wrong but this feeling in the back of my mind won't seem to go away. They say a week is a long time in footy, I'm wondering what might happen in the next fortnight or so..
