Watching at the game I thought he played pretty well. Watching the game on replay before :P I realised I hadn't appreciated some of the little things he did around the ground and just how clean he was with the pill. Great signs.
With him it really is just a question of his body holding together. He has all the natural talent plus the size to be a fantastic player.

A bit of a conundrum if Griffiths holds down his spot well from here on in. Griff, Grimes, Rance, Astbury all vying for the 2 KPB spots. Not to mention Post (to a lesser extent) and Moore, and even McGuane. Exciting that we have depth (even with injuries).

Grimes would play third tall with BG and AR the more traditional KPB roles.

The difficultly will come with finding the space for all of: Newman, Houli, Ellis, Morris, Batchelor and Dea. (Ellis eventually to the midfield)

In that one performance/game against the Hawks he delivered like an emerging footballer...kicking...positioning on the ground...contesting...awareness... desire...

By comparison the only thing The Postman aka Posty has delivered in all his games to date is Junk Mail...

Well done Griff...and a kick like a mule!...

Pretty much sums it up. Griff has the versatility to play the CHB role, slip onto the opposition's resting ruckman and Grimes goes to CHB, or he can go forward and change the mix if we need a swingman if the forward line needs something different. Makes us so versatile and unpredictable, also with a monster backman who can take the really tall/big forwards.

That run he took, touched it on the ground, was superb...just wish he'd taken a few more steps before unloading!

Same as the one in the first.....felt he could have taken a few more steps and watched it go though half way up the posts!

Still...he was just teasing..... if he gets 2 each game like that...it's just a matter of time now before he unleashes a 65m missile that sails through !

remember thinking if only the pill wasn't wet... I don't think we'll need to wait too long for it tho. Great first game for the year. Imagine Dusty, lids, griffiths plus newman and Houli, banging them in from 50+.

Talk about silver linings - had grimes not gone down Ben would still be at Coburg for another month at least I reckon. Dylan's a huge loss but yesterday's experience will be invaluable for Ben. While not the best game I've seen, he exceeded expectations by a long long way, and those kicks......well they get the blood pumping. Great stuff!

Credit where it's due mate, I remember you kicking off this particular line of conversation. Don't think I commented at the time, but will admit I was a tad unsure about it. Still has a way to go, was outmarked a couple of times today (Hale and Roughhead from memory) where you'd expect him to get a spill with his height and reach. But early signs are promising :thumbsu:

All i'm gonna say is this (if it works out), we missed on Trengrove from Port (a 200cm defender), so we had to make a decision at the last draft. So we have Rance and Biggie as the two KP's with Grimes in the Kel Moore roll. At the other end we will have Jack, Astbury and Elton as the forward KP's. Vickery will work in tandem with Maric.
It's based on this logic that i reckon we need to look at silky Thomas like flankers at the next draft.
Richo was also on 3aw yesterday talking about the mid season draft. Guess who he mentioned as the logical fit from Melbourne in a hypothetical trade to Richmond? Colin Sylvia - i kid you not.
Stick with me guys, you know i make sense.

He just looked comfortable at the top level, good contributor,
I'd leave him down back.
Those kick ins - loved em.
His 60m kicks also means he can drift down the wing and have a shot.

FWD line is working well esp with Maric resting up there.

Was recruited as CHF, and after all the main focus is to get the pill from the center bounce trough the big white posts. He looks as though he could be one serious player and he would be a waste defending. Astbury is my pick to get the CHB gig.

chf...meh. how good is a goal kicking half back?

with the amount of movement up and down the ground these days will be nice to have a reliable go to guy pushing up the ground to blaze away from> 50 and have it go sailing over triple teamed-Reiwoldt's head for 6. Our forwards will be spewing but maybee they will be a tall defender less as opp has to do something about the Griff factor.

I was pretty sceptical about Griff, plenty glad neither of his arms fell off, and that he managed to get through a whole game without injury, and loved what he showed v hawks. Did a big job and more.

What can I say, Im fickle and loving this guy based on 1 game.

Rance ,Grimes,Batch,Griff,Vickory,Riewolt there our first choice keys . Can not see astbury playing unless one is injured .

There's no guarantee that all those guys will cut the mustard.

I was a bit sceptical about his move down back, but his booming kick could be a huge asset against the forward press. Throw in our other long kicks in defence including newy, houli, ellis and batchelor and I think there is a definite strategy here. In addition, hes got the height to match it with any monster kpf and most resting ruckmen and the pace and agility to match it with 190-195cm "regular" kpfs.

However, I still like him as our long term CHF. I think his main problem up forward in the few times we've seen him was he wasn't finding the ball enough - whether it was his leading or the fact that there were more commanding forwards down there i'm not sure. Down back, however, this isnt a problem. Playing on guys like buddy, roughead and the like will show him how to find the ball as a forward - which could be very handy if he does return to the forwardline

Same problem Shultz had with Richo, and Vickery has now - they look for Jack first, second and third. Griff showed much more agility and natural football instincts than I had appreciated before and for a big guy he showed some really quick, sure hands. I can see what all the drooling has been about. Now for him to stay fit and on the park for another 40 or so games... I couldn't care less whether he plays CHB or CHF, I reckon he's going to be really good wherever. And that 70m kick over the press will be the new future tactic for everyone, you watch.

Again Ando, i said this 4 months ago. If we can make finals, this guy will be the equivalent of Nth Korea launching scuds into the US.
It will be literal balls launching from 60m out of the defensive line into 40m out of our goals. No amount of dropping back on Jack will stop that.

I've been saying for ages at CHB his kicking will break the press with ease. THe great thing is the 70m kick can tear it apart and we have one of the few guys in the game who can actually kick it that far. At 200 cm and how good he is below his knees, his speed and decision making (which is why he is so far ahead of post) he has the ability to be the best CHB in the comp and one of its most valuable players. He was really good yesterday bow i've watched the replay, not jsut for the long kicks but the way he gathered the ball and handballed to teammates in space showed how clever he actually is.

I love that already when he gets the ball in space the tigers faithful want him to kick as long as possible.

Please please please stay injury free and get the rest of the season under your belt griff... touch wood or whatever other superstitious thing i need to do to keep him fit!
