What a star.

One of the few Crowies that I genuinely like as a footballer and as a person.

Wonderful career Ben. All the best. :thumbsu:

Someone post the mark of the year pic:thumbsu:
Remember getting there late a hearing a huge roar.
5 mins later someone said " Harty took a screamer. "
Was safe as houses for 10 years
Club legend :thumbsu:

Players are expected to show loyalty to the club.
Go back a year ago when Fergus did a runner. Look how much whinging there was then.
Why then is it okay for the club to show no loyalty at all to a player who has given nothing but loyalty to his club since 1991? He's a legend and he deserves a proper retirement. He is still a brilliant player and was in great form prior to his injury. I have heard and understand the argument that our list is getting older and older and players have to start retiring, but there had to be a better way of going about it than this.
It's a disgrace.

So what should we do, just play guys until they want to retire ???

Yes it is a shame, but it was the right decision to make. Ben obviously decided that he didnt agree with the club's decision, but in the end most people guessed it was going to happen as his hamstrings are shot and he was in terrible form when he returned from his broken arm until he got injured again.

Thanks for everything Ben and I really hope that in time you can see this as a bigger picture decision made by the AFC.

All good careers come to an end and Hart's career was certainly a very very good one.
One of my all time favorite AFC players by far.

Congrats and good luck with the future. :thumbsu:

Thankyou for all your time and commitment Benny. You have had a great pressence on field as you did off field. Best of luck with futur endevours...My friends mum still loves you ;)

I was thinking about Ben Hart as a person and I kept coming back to one thing. I can't remember him once in his 16 year at the club be involved in any off-field incident or controversy that involved getting into a scuffle with someone or doing something that would have questions thrown up. I might be wrong but I definetly don't remember anything.

He was always this great footballer and a great role model off the field. He played the game hard but fair.

....and well respect by his peers throughout the league.......which is often the biggest test of a players ability and character.

to think that when Ben started his career he was assigned some allmighty tasks,i.e Lockett,Lowe,Dunstall,Ben never once shirked the issue and merely set about the task of proving himself as an outstanding defender.
Enourmously popular with fans ,teammates and opponents, fair and dour, and so Ben you are a true ornament to the game in every sense.
Well done on a great career and thanks for giving us fantastic memories.:thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Well done on a magnificent career Ben, you will be missed, even if it is so that I can't defend you to my mum any more (kidding mum!).

Farewell to 'baked bean head' as he was dubbed by a richmond player and all the best for the future.

What a fantastic player and person. It doesnt seem that long ago that we were watching you play in the school league down at Footy Park and then the next year straight into the AFL. You are among the elite for the AFC and for the AFL, a true champion. We will miss seeing you out there Benny but hopefully you will stay with us in another role within the club. Whatever you decide to do, or go, we will always hold you in high regard. Thankyou for giving us over a century's worth of magnificant memories.:thumbsu:

That's not what I'm suggesting at all. I've discussed this extensively in another thread, and said my bit, but, obviously, I'm in the minority with my view.
Obviously there's far more to it all than any of us know, and it's hard to judge the situation without knowing various details - particularly what actions the club has already taken with Ben, his responses to these, and exactly how fit he is, but I still say it hasn't been handled as well as it could have and should have been. It doesn't sit right with me.
