I've read 7 pages of this thread and there's been no mention of how deplorable Jacobs has been over his two years in the AFL. That pick 16 value is well and truly in the past. Isreal Folau aside, I think he was just about the worst player in the league to get a regular game in 2012. His kicking has turned to shit, he's a terrible decision maker and he's a bit soft.

The odds are firmly in favour of him never reaching 100 games IMO. From North's POV you're hoping that a change in club and a permanent move to the midfield will change the way he approaches his football (ie with a lot more confidence and intensity).

We're sure as shit not going to give up pick 14 or Brad McKenzie. That's just crazy talk. It wouldn't matter how many 2nd rounders you threw in as sweeteners.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing to the Matt Campbell rumour. The journo never actually said Port were interested. They just tried to connect the dots (Campbell played SANFL + Jacobs wants to play for North). He's not the type of player you should be targeting. That being said, some of the responses about him are well over the top. He's actually a better player than Jacobs atm and you still have bloody Cameron Hitchcock on your list FFS.

Apologies if that was too forthright for a visiting poster but trade period is going to send me insane.

Sharing your ignorance makes everyone stupider.

<snip>

You'll be surprised, but I did keep reading from here.

Please keep your opinions to your own board from now on, this kind of rubbish posting is barely accepted when it comes from a Port Adelaide supporter.

What was wrong with it? I refuse to believe he didn't frustrate you all this season.

I disagree with this. Plenty of us have mentioned how deplorable Jacobs has been over his two years in the AFL.

I hope you don't get infracted for your post. 'Worst player in the AFL apart from Israel Folau' was a bit harsh (and if I was you I might edit that bit out before a mod sees it), but apart from that I don't disagree with it. If I was a North supporter and we gave up pick 14 or Brad McKenzie for Jacobs, I'd be outraged.

Fair. I probably shouldn't have lead with the Folau line. I did qualify it with 'getting a regular game'. Fair to say he shits all over Zeph Skinner and a lot of other spuds who had a crack this year. I'd even suggest he's currently better than McKenzie who is a stick figure at this stage.

I know Jacobs has had glandular fever and his own injury issues so it's a rough assessment but he just doesn't make AFL standard decisions (with and without the ball) and appears to have no confidence in his kicking. That's a pretty huge problem to have.

Agreed, but otherwise your post is right on the money. Some of the trade suggestions for Jacobs have been ridiculous in this thread. Give it another month until the annual 'Ive looked at our list and seen the boys training and reckon we could finish top 4' thread..

lol. we now know two things if you believe the article.

1.north rated him pre-draft

2. north still rate him.

take whatever you want from anything else it doesnt change these two things.

it absolutely would require pick 14 or mackenzie to be part of a deal.

north have absolutely zero currency elsewhere. pick 35 ( 38 after compo ) greenwood, gartlett ( likely psd / pick 80 ).

a pick under 22 and greenwood could do it but north are not getting a pick like that from anywhere. could offer macintosh and hansen for cats pick 15 but i dont think that would be very unlikely.

i believe port would and should name mackenzie or pick 14 to be involved in the deal or walk away from negotiations.

north have nothing outside of those 2 things ( 14, mackenzie ) that can be the main part of the trade. greenwood would be a sweetener.

jacobs + pick 28 (30 after compo) (or maybe end of first round pick 25 )

mackenzie + greenwood or pick 14 + greenwood.

I don't want to be that annoying opposition fan who starts pretending he's part of the football department, but I can say with certainty that neither pick 14 or McKenzie will be part of the deal. if that's the expectation then you may as well get him to start planning his PSD price now.

My guess is we'll wait and see what Melbourne give us for Pederson. If they get a second round pick as compensation for Moloney/Rivers (27ish), we'll send you that and something else, otherwise 35 and something else. Which is obviously unders, and you may play hardball and demand Greenwood.

Doubt this will be done until next week sometime.

Donald McDonald, North's footy manager pretty much quashed most of the speculation in this thread yesterday.

"We do not trade contracted North Melbourne players unless they seek opportunity elsewhere"

Q:"Will we be keeping our first round draft pick this year?" A:"Yes"

There is absolutely 0% chance of #14 and McKenzie being involved in any trade, especially come December we will have sent him to Utah twice inside of 4 months to get him ready for 2013.

The notion that Jacobs has retained his value is pretty ridiculous as well, considering the stuff I've read on this board throughout the year.

I wonder if hard_to_beat's "word" is the same one that made him say that "Caddy to North is a done deal"?

No one is saying that we should be getting pick 16 back for Jacobs, but ffs if Matt friggin' Campbell and pick 40 is your best offer, why on earth should we sign off on that? A pick somewhere in the 20's or a swap for a player equivalent to a Greenwood/Speight/Tapscott would be reasonable. I can't see any reason why Greenwood wouldn't be on the table? And for a middle of the table side, North's midfield depth stacks up reasonably well to most top four sides. I suspect that Greenwood is the critical offer, but the whole basis of trading is based upon starting off at the lowest price you think that you might be able to get away with and then compromising from there.

I agree that anyone who is saying we should get McKenzie for him is dreaming, but you cannot seriously think that a third round draft pick and Campbell is in any way shape or form attractive for us.

Alright, looks like we'll trade with another team then if North are only willing to offer Campbell & a late pick.

Matty Campbell isn't that bad guys, to be honest i wouldn't be opposed to him staying.
I'm no expert on Port Adelaide, but you seem to be lacking in the small forwards area.
