So I guess that means Tony Cochrane is going to come out with a statement how this is a real kick in the guts for St Kilda, how they put so much time into his development and how money talks.

Of course he could just be a hyprocrite.

First rounder or get out Cochrane !.

Poor old Longy could never get a decent run under Ratten, change of scene will do him good.

Will miss him, one of the few to consistently put his body on the line for the team. Hope he does well at the Suns.

He was given 19 games this year. And seemed to be a fav. of Ratts. He was mentioned a couple of times by Ratts in the 'uncut series'. Shocked he wants to leave, especially with 'Hill' still there???

He started in 15 games this year and got another few runs as the medi sub. He was played all over the place during the year, down back, up forward, on the wing... and was never really consistently good in any position.

If Gold Coast were able to promise him regular playing time in a position where he wants to play, he'd be crazy to turn that down.

We saw him as a utility player and treated him as such.

It's weird that Ben Long has got a run but never found a true spot in the saints best 22. Has played on all 3 areas of the ground from forward flank to wing and back flank.

I don't know if he butchers the ball often, I haven't really seen enough saints games.

Still say based on one of his best season stat wise he should be a forward flanker /wing type.

Got 16 games and kicks 14 goals and 9 behinds.

I still think he can kick 20-25 goals a season .

Seems that the narrative was certain players have been played on various positions overtl the years.

Acres was played all over the ground for the saints. He goes to Freo and plays on a wing.

Josh battle plays all over the ground and settles on one of the spots in the back 6.

How does Gold Coast rate Sam Flanders internally? Played 30 games in 3 years and hasn't really performed highly yet but is tearing it up at VFL level.
Would a Ben Long plus a future 2nd/3rd round pick potentially prise him out of GC for more opportunity as a mid/fwd (if we offered it).

GC get Long plus later points for their academy boys. Just spitballing though

Why do the suns keep recruiting overpaid journeymen trades who wont be best 22 for them?
Long will probably play HB for them, they've got no remaining deoth in that area after their best players in that spot went down with season long injuries.
He'll come cheap and can set physicality standards on the field.
