Righto, never heard of this guy until last night to be honest, but now I've read up and watched some very exciting highlights I'm pretty happy we landed him. Especially considering we ended up with a huge slider with our second pick.

Where do people think he'll play most of his footy? Half forward or will he push higher up the ground?

Very happy with this, fills a need which everyone has been crying out for. Silk and speed

Looks like he has that x-factor who could class up our outside ball

Really loving his chase and tackle though, hard nut with speed. 6 goals in a vfl prelim big plus, loves the pressure

Yep, the best thing though is that despite being an outside silky player, he's got more mongrel in him than most. Will suit our game plan.

Damo and Darren discussing the Draft

Time to embrace the bolter.

I wanted Cox due to him being a big improver and being dual sided so I can get around Long who has been a big improver and is versatile, which is very important in modern football.

His exposed form shows that he has played against men, and is up to the task. My Dog supporting mate is also a massive fan and when I asked the recruiter I know he said he is a good player with good tricks (he is not exactly word smith).

May not have been a good pick according to BF 'experts' but who cares. The Bulldogs have built a premiership list on
reaching for players who all had one thing in common; improvement in their draft year.

Written on the footyalmanac for the NT's top prospects.

"Ben Long

Another member of one of the most respected football families in the Northern Territory is showing impressive form coming through the ranks. I rate Long very highly as a footballer, and given his selection in the Allies squad, so must plenty of others. Most of the Long footballers are late developers and Ben burst onto the scene in the NTFL for St Marys last season and would have been a member of the premiership winning side if not for suspension. Long has a hard edge to his game and attacks the man and football at a hundred miles an hour. But he also has the poise and skill that is synonymous with other members of his family. He was excellent in the Northern Territory’s final game of the Division Two championships against NSW/ACT and will get an opportunity with the Allies."

Is he a small forward who can develop into the midfield/wing? Or is he someone who's going to play predominantly as a forward and go through couple times a game?

Congrats getting Long, higher than i'd thought he'd go but he's a ready made player.

Favourite part of the VFL GF was him flying the flag for us and taking out Lynden Dunn.

He doesn't look built/solid but boy he loves the physical stuff

Hopefully long term he can be a wingman/mid

Best combo really, has the outside skills but doesn't mind getting his hands dirty.

"All the St Kilda boys text me and got around me, which made me feel great..."

Can someone give the kid a Saints polo already? :D

I like his attack on the ball. He has the goal sense of Lonie and Sinclair. He has the attack on the man and the ball of a Mav Weller type. And he can defend like a Webster. What's not to like about this kid? If he is good enough to take it to one more level (AFL) I think he will push hard for a best 22 spot and I think that may allow us to push Weller more into the midfield. Could be a very important find for us. Time will tell. Can't wait to see him go around in the pre-season.

Have been searching around for some of his NTFL clips playing for St Marys and he's definitely strong for a kid who is still pretty light- just saw a big lump of a bloke try to lay a bump on him after a handball and Longy at least broke even or won the bump, holding his ground and causing the guy (who looked a solid 90kgs at least) to take more of the force.

Will find some more highlights that haven't already been posted and put them into a clip over the coming days, I really like what I see so far though. Get this guy into the gym and we'll have a real player at AFL level. Love his attack on the ball.

He does attack the ball and he looks brave... almost reckless. A pretty good trait at AFL level if you can survive. I like the cut of his jib. :D

Welcome Ben

It's Ben Long time coming that's for sure.
