After reading a few of the posts on the changes for Anzac day thread a number of people have Ben Reid as an In. But yet he has not named in the best or kick many goals for Williamstown so why do we need to bring him in.
The Collingwood jumper is something that should be earned not just handed out IMO and from the reports im not sure if Ben has done enough yet to warrant his spot in the side.
Could those guys like JAJH actually let us know if they think he is ready as I think the people that have him listed as IN for tomorrows match don't actually know or seen this kid play.

So Ben Reid ready??? or not????

what, by your standards, constitutes earning it. a goal a game, 30 possies? what did toovey, cox and d1ck do to earn theirs? there were a lot of people on here who said toovey didn't deserve his spot in the team, yet he has hardly been disgraced wearing the black + white.

I have written about Ben b4 - have seen him play twice.

Good prospect but - at this stage no capacity for body work and poor OH.

Upside - great size and speed with a liking for making tackles and pressures in forward 50 - should be a great foil for Rocca in a year or so.

If the weather is fine I would play him but out wide and on and off the bench

If we do that need to drop at least one of the other kids.

Well Toovey had a year and a bit to earn his Jumper so if you think it or not the match selectors also thought it. As for Dick he got a BOG for Williamstown and kicked a few goals something im yet to see from Reid.
Im not having ago at any player that put on the Black and White but for the people that have selected Reid to be an In for Tomorrows game my question is WHY???? Im yet to see the kid play so I wanna know why a lot of people have him as IN.

Why, well people are worried about our forward line as it was very poor last week. So people want that extra creative big man roaming around the goals, the selection is for re-assurance not justification.

Reid is not ready yet for AFL.He is very young and not up to standard yet.
Pity we cannot elevate wellingham. This kid is going to be a star.He would have been handy this week, but needs to be elevated.

Someone needs to take one for the team and kidnap Richards so we can elevate Wellingham

As I have previously stated in another thread, I have watched Reid and Brown for the last month or so, although Brown has not played for the last two rounds, I like the looks of both kids, but in my opinion neither are ready for the step up to senior level. Now, not forgetting both boys were taken 1st round draft picks at 8 & 10, you would expect they should be just about able to take the next step. If we look back to last year at the new kids from the 2005 draft, they all spent the best part of the season at Willy including my boy. Of the 2005 draftees who stood up, Pendlebury was a class above at VFL level, Daisy obviously played most of the year with seniors other than a couple of Willy games. Ryan COOK, playing well at VFL, but still not ready. Danny STANLEY, had an ordinary year at VFL and played a few games with Willy 2's, he is going to struggle again this year. John ANTHONY played all season at Willy, struggled at the start but come on leaps and bounds in latter half of the season and was stiff not to get senior selection. So, what that tells me is Reid and Brown, although they were early picks, and on current form, will spend a good part of this season at Willy.

Haven't seen Ben play yet but have seen him down at training a number of times. I kind of agree that he's not ready yet but for his sake I'm glad he's playing. Seems to have something for sure and a great set shot on goal ..... just needs to mature in body and with this the pace of the game might show him up. I'm not talking about leg speed but general quickness and pressure of the game playing against men especially on Anzac day. I do hope he proves me wrong. :thumbsu:

MM is known in giving youngsters the chance to prove themselves on a very big stage and let's face Anzac Day is like a GF with all the build up. Interesting to hear Mal Michael on Before the Game last Saturday saying Anzac Day to him is bigger than GF day, making the point that on Anzac Day there's only Bombers and Collingwood supporters barracking whereas the GF is full of corporates and miscelleneous punters.

I did actually pick Dick would make his debut on Anzac day before the season started but got it wrong. I wish in hindsight they saved him from the Port match because if it's dry tomorrow then he'd be great with his quickness, setting up goals and the odd opportunistic goal.

Rocca to get BOG with 8.1 :thumbsu:

I keep hearing 'It is a pity we cannot elevate Wellingham'. Why is this? We have Rusling and Anthony (and Dawes??) out of action for best part of the year. Neither will be back to make any kind of impact in 2007. Nichols is up already but that leaves 1 (or 2) spots for elevation. Why not Wellingham???

Stop making sense please or I will request that you are banned for life. It’s outrageous!

Good post JAJH.

Good Post JAJH glad someone can actually answer the questions I have.

Good post JAJH.

Sorry, maybe I should change my name to DTM and start posting illiterate, ill-spelled ramblings. Would that help?? (Sorry Dave, only joking).

Has he gone altogether or just a short holiday?

Not sure whether he has gone for good but he has been having a bit to say on that other site from which I have been banned.

Just wondering, respectfully of course - have you Mr Jabso ever read George Orwell's Animal Farm?

Get hold of it - consider the message.

The oppressed become the oppressor - we see that in all totalitarian regimes - which is precisely why we need a free media - which means a free (excl DTM of course) internet - where over the top sensorious and abusive behaviour of moderators is not found. Where people like me can express an intelligent and well considered opinion such as sack Micky Madhouse (by the way I wonder what JAJH's young bloke really thinks of the old fool - do not answer JAJH - do not want him to be ackered!!!

I am constantly disappointed with the treatment an intellectual like myself receives (must be occassioned by jealousy) when posters like Lonely from 50 and DTM fill up the space here.

It's an absolute joke - this shall probably be my last post as jabber has warned me any more free speech and it is the highway.

Waving goodbye in anticipation of a lifetime ban.

Leaf, grow up!

Stop sniping at LF50 and Jabso, I'm sorry, Jabso just because they disagree with your comments. They are loyal supporter,s which many on here don't appear to be.

Doesn't hurt to be positive!

Have seen Ben Reid play a couple of games at Willy so far this season, to me he has good pace for a big man, very good at ground level, and a good pair of hands. Will need to imporove his kicking for goal, kicked alot of points from set shots, but that will all come once he perfects his technique. Not sure if he will play this season, eventhough MM believes he will play sometime this season. I think that Nathan Brown would get a game before Benny Reid. That's mainly due to Browny looking more physically ready for a key position, to play at AFL level.
