There would not be a defender in the whole AFL I would take before Hurley. A young match winning forward who is better in defence would be a blessing have.

People really think Hurley will be a superstar. It's amazing that a player who made the All Australian team this year is losing the poll to a player who didn't so heavily!

You can't look at it like that.

Would you take B Reid over J Kennedy? Kennedy is a better player than Reid and also had a better season however ended up with no AA spot.

Maybe it's just me, but I would take the 3rd or 4th best defender in the comp, over the 20th best forward in the comp.

Coming into 2012...these are the list of KPFs that would be better than Hurley.

Buddy
Cloke
Roughead (when he plays there)
Kennedy
Petrie
Pavlich (when he plays there)
J Brown
Riewoldts (Jack and Nick)

So that's 9 KPF's that I rate ahead of Hurley as it stands, no point comparing him to all forwards as its apples v oranges.

So by my count he is in the top ten KPFs in the competition (arguably) which is pretty bloody good for a bloke who has spent just as much time in defence as well as attack.

Question of curiousity, do you think Hurley would already have had a breakout year as a forward in 2011, if he was playing in a top side with a top class midfield and good delivery? For example, Geelong. I think he could have tbh. Kid will be a gun no doubt.

I think S20 pointed out that Hurley missed out on 10-15 goals by being forced into defence due to injuries/match ups, that sounds about right...which would've put him into the 30-40 goal mark.

IMO playing for a Geelong, 50-60 goals would not have been out of the question (obviously playing all games as a forward).

As a pure defender Reid is better, but Hurley can play both ends and if he remains fit and injury free will be one of the best KPs in a few years.
