A "key" player for our premiership defence...do we know anything about his 2" hamstring tear/groin injury/general soreness????

Will he play on the preliminary final?

Mick Malthouse - " I'm not sure"

Harry O - "I'm not sure"

Towing the club line or should we be really concerned at the lack of "he should be right"?

Has anyone seen him hobbling around the club etc>?

I'm going with the he will be fine line. Based on the fact that he was almost going to play in the last game and that they would give him every opportunity to play against WCE, surely it can't be THAT bad?

Fingers crossed.

They will probably give him a light week (hence media will continue to speculate). The club may also choose not to give too much away to keep everyone guessing (hence Mick saying "not sure").
Surely if he was close to playing last week then he shud be fine after two weeks, unless he breaks down during 'full on' fitness test next week.
He is so important for prelim & hopefully GF.

Our Club (like all the others) always tells porkies regarding injuries and that makes Micks and Harry's hesitant answers a real worry.
My completely uneducated guess would be Ben has done a hammy and will only be available if we make GF.

It all depends on what the injury is. As the "injury" happened outside a match, no one outside the club really knows what it is. Obviously being kept under wraps, makes me feel like its worse than they are letting on.

General soreness or hamstring tightness (aka Leon Davis type) - will be okay and play in prelim.

Hamstring strain - chance of playing in prelim, however should be right to play in GF as worst case scenario if we make it.

Hamstring tear - Struggling to play in GF with limited time frame recovery.

Groin injury no idea.

This is obviously all conjecture.

Malthouse was saying he wasn't sure ball, Heath or Davis would play last week either

Yeah, you sure can't listen to Mick on anything to do with injury.

The fact is of course that he can't be sure. Mick mentioned on Sunday that the weeks rest meant we don't have to rush Ben and can now ease things back for this week, so that they can try to get him right for the following week.

I'm assuming that the "not sure" answer is because no-one will really know how is is until they step things up next week.

As for what the injury actually is, who the hell knows? If he really had a 2cm tear in a hammy he won't play again this year and i don't know what the benefit would be in hiding that info because he won't train and all rival clubs would know he is cactus.

I'm thinking it's probably a minor strain for that reason.

On fox sports coverage of the afl mvp last night they had maxy with them and they asked him and maxy said he is "99.5% sure ben reid will play" and he seemed very confident when he said it.

Surely he will play.

This is my take on the situation. Let's hope that we are very wrong!

A friend of mine who owns a resturant in Nth melbourne and is a collingwood supporter and friend of many players, saw Ben Reid last week.

He told me he was totally unaware that Reid had anything wrong.
He said they spoke for a little while then Reid was off, walking normally and seemingly with no problem.

However,he did see him walking not running.

He played out the Grand Final with a broken foot/leg.

Yeah, he'll be fine. Not sure where the hamstring rumours came from. It's been groin all along. SEN trying to create negativity for Collingwood where there is none as usual.

If ben reid was unavailable for the rest of the year, that is the only way i could see Rambo having a run. getting just a little bit stretched down back for my liking on the pointy end of the season. Hopefully reid plays next week and the following. vey important to our structure

Last week... before he did his injury maybe??? As he was a late withdrawal

“I have been running this week and the doctors have told me I am a 95 percent chance to play.

“If anything, the two weeks off has allowed me freshen up ahead of Friday night.

“It is very similar to last year where I injured my quad in round 19 and missed the two matches.

“I came back in round 22, feeling really fresh, and played out the finals campaign in good condition.”

Happy days :)

I get the feeling that in the CFC's vernacular, each percentage point from 95-100 is not proportionate to those in the 0-95 range. Or maybe I'm just cynical...

God, I hope he gets up.
